the half brother of saddam hussein and the ex judge during saddams reign were hung this morning, according to rte news at 1 today the half brothers head came clean off his body, ouch

Amongst other things they were still human beings. If they're to be executed it should be as humane as possible.

Well I would disagree with executing human beings but if it's going to be done or if I was to be executed the last thing I would care about is if it's going to hurt for a few minutes. That's all I'm saying

I'd imagine the head was basically garroted by the noose; could explain why they tied the scarf around Saddam's neck?

If you miscalculate the weight of the person, and the length of the rope, it can happen. Not normal though.

Unless the noose managed to hook/tighten onto the top of the spine quick enough before the body dropped. Well, thats just a guess.

There's a (gruesome) science to calculating the correct length of drop for each individual 'guest of honour' so as to ensure that the neck is instantly snapped, and not leave them dangling on a short rope to die of slow strangulation, or decapitate them with a long drop as appears to have happened in this case.

A relative of mine is in the ambulance service, and they tell of the time they went out to someone who had tried to hang themselves in a shed. They left the rope so long that they were found sitting on the ground crying with the rope still around their neck, and with both ankles broken.

Yeah, the noose tightening would have to be instant. As for the spine separating, no idea, maybe it did even.
Unless the rope cut through his neck and stopped and tightened at the spine, and the weight of the head hanging freely caused the rest of the skin to tear on the neck causing it to fall off?

No it wasn't.
Reporters were shown the video of the execution yesterday. BBC News did an interview last night with their reporter.
When the guy dropped, the rope jumped with his weight. Body and head separated. The camera man moves and looks down the hole where the body is, the head was still in the hood away from the body.

i've seen the vid(got it too) and his head doesnt come off it just is at a 90 degree angle towards the ceiling after the trapdoor lets him drop

Is it really evil that I laughed at that? It's like the Farm Sluts short movie where the guy tries to hang himself with his own tie, only to realise that his roof is extremely low. His mum comes down to see him in nothing more than a pair of boxers and a shirt standing on the ground with his tie nailed to the roof.

I bet it wont be too long now 'til the footage is leaked on to youtube.
