400mw power output on Netopia router?

Is it possible to increase the power output on the Netopia 3347 (eircom broadband router) to 400mw?

I'm having problems with WiFi coverage in the house, it only started recently and I believe it's down to the amount of new WiFi networks in the area. I tried changing channels and it hasn't made any difference.

I've read that the higher power output equipment has a better range, and Netopia even supply the 400mw rated devices to US, but for some reason EU devices are limited to 100mw (probably EU legislation).

I'd like to mod mine but I'm not sure how to do it, does anyone have any experience with this?

I can hardly imagine Netopia have two different boards for EU and US, it's probably in the firmware or some adjustable resistor on the circuit board.

Problem with this is you will cause interference to the people next door ( then they will go mod their routers n you're back where you started) .Try move it to the middle of the house and see how you get on.
Or maybe because of size/shape/wall of hosue you just need to get another AP/extender.

Well, there's only one phone socket in the house, so I have no choice where to have the router unfortunately. Previous owners obviously didn't think much of phone services.

Modding the router sounds like the simplest option, and if I could get about 5m distance covered with good signal quality I really wouldn't care about the rest. I just wish I knew somebody who's done it, don't want to end up bricking the router.

Without also using a 400 mW card on the laptop there is no point whatsoever in modding the router.

Maybe, if you are an electronics expert. If not, it would be quite difficult.

Get a range extender ,and put it about halfway along , all it will need is a mains socket for power.
    Something like this :

Not to be whinging at you but as i said your neighbours wont really care either and will mod their routers and you will then be unable to get a unusable signal outside the room its in.
As BMinish said , you will have to get a better card for your laptop anyway if you try and go that way.

    1) buy range extender thingy
    or
    2) move the router
    or
    3) Buy a new wireless card for your laptop and attempt router mod
