Samsung Le32r73bd Lcd Tv

Have just purchased my first LCD TV, its a Samsung LE32R73BD which I purchased from Dixons in Dublin, and I must say she's a beauty!

Set in a very tasteful shiny black casing and with a move strip along the bottom of the trim, I really cant fault its external beauty & the basic NTL pictures on 16:9 & Zoom are also of fantastic quality, but ......................

When viewing in 4:3 in a dark room (at night) I notice that the four corners are filled with white pixels ~ just as if light was deliberately leaking in through the four corners of the black margin, so I now wonder, is this a design feature as in (back light) or could this be a factory fault in my set?

As I have already said, this anomoly only shows when the picture is in 4:3 and when viewing in a dark room.

    Any ideas anybody?

Sounds like a little back light bleeding to me an issue which is very common in all LCD displays.

I wouldn't say it's a fault but you could return if you want but you will get no guarantee the next one wont do the same thing.

Cheers 8T8, sounds like it is just a "quirk" of some LCD TV sets!
I might also add, that the light in the four corners fades away the longer the set is on (40Mins) usually does the trick:-)

I think I will live with it ................

Funnily enough I was looking at the same TV myself the other day in Dixons; we were probably standing next to each other at some point ;)

My only concern was the price, I have no guage for HDTVs, the Samsung sets did seem pricier than other makes of the same dimensions, but there is definately a vast quality difference visible.

Still, I think I'd save at least €200 purchasing from komplett, only I can't find the exact model number, just slightly varying ones.

You will not find the exact model number as Dixon's but the important part is only the LE32R73 the BD stands for Blue Dash, Basically all LE32R7 are the same TV's the other letters and numbers mean if it includes a digital tuner or not and the colour of the bottom trim on the tv, Curry's & Dixons only have the blue hasd while DID, Powercity, Harvey Norman etc. will all have a LE32R74** which will have a silver trim.

I just got the LE4074BD at the weekend and I am very happy with it, although I will spend many more weeks tweaking the colour to get it right.

To the OP note that these sets have a Energy Saver feature which controls the brightness of the back light, if you set this to a lower setting, you won't get as much if any white light bleed through on your set, although it will not be as bright it will have better colour levels.

The reason for this is that TV's are always set up so that in a store under the bright lights the Tv with the brightest picture will look better to the average customer.

Cheers Furp ~ and thanks for all the info, but I still have reservations about the illuminated corners of "my set"...........

I was passing Currys today in Liffey valley, so I called in just to have a chat with one of the sales men, and to get another opinion, and to my surprise he told me directly that I had a fault on my set (no if's no but's) he just told me that there should be no Light leaking-in through the corners!

I have ten days left out of the 28 days (if I want to exchange the set) and if I do decide to change it ~ It will be for the same model again LE32R73BD

If mine is faulty (boarderline) then its probably one in a thousand?

    WATCH THIS SPACE:)

It only works with some inputs, there should be a list of which ones in the manual.

Glad I could help I went back and re-read your original post and if you are seeing pure white light leaking out of the corners of the screen then this is definatly a fault.I'd get them to exchange it straight away. I also bought my Tv in that shop and the manager Colm seemed very helpful.

What I thought you were talking about first time was when on a black screen some areas seem almost like a small wihite cloud is on the set and this is mostly normal with LCD's depending on brightness of backlight and the quality and size of panel.

I finally decided to exchange the LE32R73BD on the very last day (28 Day exchange) and guess what ................... It was faulty!

The New model has no white pixels in the corners at all, which means there was a factory fault in the original, not that I had any doubts really,
I just hoped that it might right itself given time, and save me the hassle of taking it back to Dixons in the Jervis Centre!

But now that I have, I feel vindicated ...................................

I Highly recommended this TV set (unless you pick-up a faulty one) in which case you can exchange it within 28 days.
    What a beauty :)

ArthurF, Just out of curiousity I was wondering how much you paid for your Samsung. I shopped around when buying the Samsung 40" r74 and found that Dixons prices were way above anyone elses. Sorry for being nosey but just curious.

I paid 1,099 Euro for the LE32R73BD which I am now really happy with, but be aware Moussdog, there are also other similar versions out there at varing prices (Power City for example) have a very similar, but not identical model .............................

No doubt the prices have started to drop since Christmas.
