    Hello,
Dunno if this is the right place.. feel free to move.

I am just wondering if there is a decent doctors/gps in Dublin city center ?

I have an asthma prescription to re-fill... so need to go on a regular basis. However I would like to go somewhere thats pretty decent and free of the scumbag mayhem that dogs most places I seem to try...

I used to see a guy in the IFSC... the place was clean quiet.. pretty fantastic actually as my previous place was on patricks street before... I was lucky I didn't leave that place more sick than arriving !!

Also any recommendation on "good" doctors in and around town... I went to one on dame street once and basically seemed to be a sick note and pill dispensing factory... didnt care what was wrong really just wanted to know what you wanted and how long the sick note should be written for... pretty shocking to be honest..

    Any help appreciated

I find suffolk street surgery very good.

They are two women so once you don't have a problem with that. They are general gp's but also specialise in men's health.

Like yourself I spent a fair while shopping around town for a doctor I could go to who gave a toss about health :) (sounds odd, I know)
    They also do student discounts.

I temped for the Mercer Medical Centre behind Stephen's Green Shopping Centre. The doctors there were lovely and very professional. There is a mix of male and female doctors and they do Well Wo/Man checks.

I've also been to the Grafton Medical centre just off Grafton St on Sth Anne St. They were very good and I would def go back if I hadn't found a closer doctor to my home. :)

Hi there i could highly recommend a doctors surgery in Jervis Street its opposite the cineworld cinema called Jervis Medical Centre. I have been there two times now and the doctor i saw on both occasions was very nice and listened to everything i had to say. I didnt feel as though i was being rushed to get back out the door - as you are in most places. i didnt have an appointment the first time i went there but i was seen within 15 minutes.
    hope this helps.

I too am seeking a new GP, pref nearer or in Dublin city centre as I've been moving around a lot in various suburbs. I'm male but I've no pref regarding male/female doc. I'm looking for a good general practice, with doc(s) who are professional and service oriented and who stay up to date on developments. I've got a dermatology thing going on at the moment, but not sure GPs know much about dermatology generally. Am also in the market for a periodic STI screen and am shocked at how few GPs provide this service, so a practice that provides full screen (i.e. swabs as well as bloods) would be a bonus too.

Any suggestions welcome, city centre, or even a little outside e.g. D3/D9/D4.

I am looking for a GP , so not a place where there are revolving locums, not that there is anything wrong with that, it's more that I want to stick with one person for a while. Some people have mentioned Mercers. Is that part of RCSI? Also, is it like the dental hospital or a full GP practice with mostly private clients? I've also seen reference to Suffolk St. surgery and the Custom House Square medical centre in IFSC. Some others have mentioned Sheehan in Dun Laoghaire and Kelly in Morehampton Rd too.

    thanks!

I find the doctors in Temple Bar medical centre great.

It is a husband and wife team and they are both really nice. I usually went to the wife for the normal run of the mill stuff but last time I dropped in unannounced as I was having a bit of a stressful time and went in to see could they do something and I got to see the husband. No word of a lie, he calmed me down within minutes by completely removing the emotion from the situation and just being practical in a down to eath realistic way. He was excellent.

I would highly recommend both of them. I think it is €60

+1 for Temple Bar Medical Centre. I've been going there for about two years. I find both doctors excellant and what I do like about them is that they are slow to prescribe anti-biotics. I had surgery in January and over a four month recovery time I relied on them a lot and found them fantastic.

I too am looking for a female doctor, who is not just a pill dispenser, I work in health care myself, so I usually know what I want, but it is important to get a thorough assessment and unfortunately that's lacking in a lot of doctors in Ireland. I am living near the city centre so if you know of any other female doctors near the city centre please reply with their name/ details...

I've started going to the O'Connell St Medican center over the Hamilton Long Pharmacy beside Ulster Bank. I'm always able to walk in and be seen within ten minutes, it's never noisy or busy, their opening hours are fantastic and they take credit card :D

    Hey
Thank you for this thread. Have something to add though...

Jervis Medical Centre - very bad experience. The Doctor really didn't listen, he lectured, he basically did everything but accuse me of lying although he certainly found many ways to imply it.

Will check out Suffolk St as the virus I supposedly didn't have has gone to my chest. Even though I'm apparently not "really" an asthmatic.

If someone knows of a place that we can report Doctors who don't listen can they post it here? I had €55 robbed from me in this place. Thought it was dodgy that you had to pay before you actually had your consultation...

    Thanks dudes & dudettes!

I go to the Coombe Medical Centre in the grounds of the Coombe hospital. I can't speak highly enough of them.

I totally agree with this. I had an awful experience with one of the male doctors in Jervis Medical Centre, I ended up leaving in tears (and I am not one to cry particularly easily might I add).

He was incredibly rude, patronising and generally horrible, I would really recommend that people avoid this Medical Centre if they have anything other than a regular run of the mill cold!

Just started seeing a doctor in Hannover Medical across from the IFSC. Absolutely brilliant.

Custom House Medical in IFSC are good
    I was happy anyway.

Sure with the Luas or even walking distance, the IFSC is just about the city center
The Luas stops 50 metres outside the door
