For some reason wifi can be fiddly. Some where on the net there is a list of "support" routers or chipsets or something.

But try going into your wireless settings on the router and make sure the wireless channel is either 1 or 11. Try both.

Also WPA and WEP can cause problems. I just have MAC auth on mine. Sure WPA and WEP can be broken in an hour anyway with the right programs so it is not that secure anyway.

And banking websites and the like do their own enycrption <SSL> on tehh https.

If it doesn't work even with WPA turned off, then the channel could well be at fault.

    [edit]a quick google and:

    Error Code 52130-52132

There appears to be an issue with your wireless router's firewall.

I take it you've looked into it?

    [edit again] Helpful Nintendo! :)

Does it even pick up that the network is there... i.e. does it "see" the SSID?

I have a static IP on my WII and I use WPA 128bit, I couldn't connect to the router with DHCP enabled.

I set both my 360 and WII with static address's and they connect without any issue's.

it does see my SSID and lets me enter in the password. ive tried it with a
static address. still no luck lol

Hmmm... well if you've tried it with all security switched off, should you be getting a password request? (I'm not sure about the router... so I don't know... did you reset after switching security/firewall off?)

If all else fails, you could try with a friends router and see if you're getting the same issues...

    Other than that.. I'm stumped!

Try channel 11. It is possible you have one of the feck routers that does not work.

    [Silly question edited out]

Oh my brother had a similar problem witrh both the DS and the Wii, he turned off all encryption and just used MAC IDs.

    You could try:

    - Hold in the reset button on the router <this will wipe all setting back to factory default>
    - Do a firmware upgrade on the router
    - Check your DSL modem and try turning off the firewall on that if there is one.

It took me a while to set mine up on my WAG54G although I'm using WEP and DHCP is disabled.

As far as I know the Wii only recognises Password Key 1 on access. I disabled the MAC settings and it finally worked.

I had similar problem with Linksys WAP54G

The Wii was seeing the SSID, but would not connect. Originally I had set to one of the high channel numbers (11 I think) and to 802.11g only.

Swapped to a lower channel (think its 6) as I read somewhere about the Wii frequency range being capped (could be US Wii's only) and also set back to mix mode 802.11b & 802.11g

Wii now connects without a problem. The Shop Channel sometimes fails to connect but I am guessing this could be down to the service being busy!!

How can wpa with a secure password be cracked?

MAC address filtering is much more insecure then wep or wpa.
Why can't i live next door to all you people not securing your wireless, i could have great fun leeching all your bandwidth.

Just a quick question, hopefully someone can help me out... I'm getting broadband for my apartment and I am just wondering if i get wireless broadband like irishbroadband or clearwire do i still need to get a router to share that connection with my wii. I thought you just need a router to convert asdl (cable/phone line) to wireless for the wii, but I read some other stuff there lately elsewhere and now I am a bit confused...

Would i better of getting an asdl connection and then getting a router..? not much difference in price.. Cheers...

Yes, unfortunately you do... The ISP wireless will only deliver it to your house, (via a big antenna thing) then you'll need your own wireless router to get that to whatever other devices you have. (unless they supply their own wireless router, which is possible, I'm not sure)

They don't cost too much though, you could get one for around 50 euro.

So basically, it doesn't matter whether the connection you get to the house is wireless or not, you'll still need a router to dish it out around the house.

    Thanks Joe_Chicken,

I went off and got broadband with clearwire so have to get myself a wireless router now, i here the eircom one for 25 is grand but don't know if it will work with my clearwire modem.

BTW does anyone know about whats the story with the USB lan adaptor for the wii is it out...nintendo europe site is down and can't seem to find out, its out in the us alright.. And more importantly does anyone know of any other cheaper ethernet-usb adaptors which would be compatible with the Wii I know a certain airlink model is meant to be. I have an ethernet-usb adaptor myseld got it free but that doesn't seem to work.

WEP and WPA can be broken fairly easily (script kiddy easy and takes about an hour or two). I wont go into the details, but i have seen it done.

So you have seen wpa cracked that has a passphrase of 63 characters that are a mix of letters numbers and other random characters?

how can u crack wep or wpa when the only information you have is the wireless network name

WEP can be cracked in minutes. An individual WPA-protected network *may* be cracked quickly, depending on the effort put into security by the administrator. It comes down to teh length of password used.

Yup that was my point, I even said how important the security of the pass is with wpa. But aparently Pablo-El-Vagabu knows a way of cracking wpa with a very secure key in 1 to 2 hours

I too can't seem to get the Wii to authenticate with the WAP54G. The Wii sees the SSID, appears to accept the passphrase, then generates an error that implies the passphrase was wrong. If I specify a wrong passphrase I get an error very quickly; if I specify the correct passphrase, I wait maybe 20 seconds before the Wii displays the error code (51330 or 52130).

The WAP works with a laptop and with our phones. The phones are configured to use static IP, and we have 3-4 devices now working that way. I don't do anything special with the laptop, so I assume it's using dynamic IP. The Linksys helpdesk confirmed that my phones should be able to connect via dynamic IP, but they can't.

    My network configuration is:
    cable modem - Linksys RVS4000 router - hub - Linksys WAP54G
the RVS4000 router also connects wired to a switch and other downstream devices. The WAP54G is not providing gateway services; it's just a switch with wireless ports.

I've tried setting the Wii up with:
    multiple capitalizations of the passphrase
    static IP
    dynamic IP
    auto DNS
    manual DNS

Should I be using the WEP "key" instead of the passphrase?

support.nintendo.com recommends channel 1 or 11; I'm using 11. Others here recommend a lower number like 6. Thoughts?

The Wii and our phones detect other networks, but they are much weaker than mine. So, we could have some signal interference.

    Anybody have other suggestions?
