What to look for in a dvd recorder?

I'm trying to find myself a good dvd recorder with a max. price of E350.
But what can you reccomend I make sure comes with the recorders I look at. I need a DVD recorder to record a huge collection of TV shows which are recorded in Long Play VHS. I also need it to record another huge collection of TV shows straight from NTL digital. I will need at least 80gb and for the machine to record at least 4 episodes per disc.

Whats the deal with DVD-RW and DVD+RW, whats the difference with the negative and positive? do all recorders come with both?.

However, I feel is if theres a zillion other things that are worth looking out for!. Can anybody help? I have my eye on the Magnavox (spelling?) and I don't know any good stores. Can't trust Power City and its refurbished goods history and D.I.D. and its crappy after sales service (they aggresively told me it cost them money to send back products when I brought back a SONY VCR one time)

To assure the best quality when recording off the NTL box, look for one that has RGB inputs.

And for copying VHS tapes, look for a TBC (Time Base Corrector) - I'm not sure how common these are in typical DVD recorders, but some seem to have them. A TBC will reduce the inherent horizontal "wobbling" of VHS pictures.
