What's your favourite cheesy moment in film? Or just your favourite cheesy film non stop. I can think of a few but I'll post later.

This always seems to happen... Someone posts a "Best ..." thread, then someone else posts another "Best ..." thread, and it just builds up to a whole load of spam. :(

Okaay...whatever delete it as most mods here would. Knock youself out.

I find your cynical jab in poor taste. Knock myself out? You say that as if I derive pleasure from deleting things. That's simply not true, because the only emotional response I get from deleting things is annoyance that I have to in the first place. Dealing with spammers selling bootleg DVDs and mobile phones isn't how I enjoy myself.

The point I'm trying getting across here, is that this is a discussion board, and as such, threads like this where people are just listing off things, "Best cheesy moment" in this case, are normally devoid of discussion. It's just the nature of such threads. So everyone mentions something, what do we end up with? A thread full of one-line posts.

The sad thing I find is that threads such as this are usually inspired by something that can be discussed, such as "I just watched Azumi, I thought it was amazing and it had the best fights ever, so what do you think is the best martial arts film ever?" So, the thread was inspired by watching a film, but this film doesn't get discussed, everyone just chimes in with what they think is best, and it all just amounts to a thread filled with film titles. No opinions are ever justified, nor is there any discussion had, it just ends up being yet another fruitless thread. I find it sad that when someone watches a film, they aren't inclined to discuss it, which leads to infinitely more indepth, interesting and rewarding threads. Instead, we're left with "Best this" or "Best that" threads.

Of course, that doesn't even account for the phenomena that once someone starts a "Best" thread, there's usually a load of other "Best" threads for every genre that can be thought of, and then there's usually "Worst" threads that follow, and it's a viscious cycle of threads that amount to nothing.

And you know what else is sad? That when we've got organised events like the Film Awards, people who post these kind of threads. I mean, the nomination for categories racked up a paltry 11 replies. Now you'd think that people who post "Best so and so" would actually be interested in a definitive procedure where the "Best" of different categories are actually voted upon, but no... They've got threads that amount to nothing. ;)

As a minimum the OP should have given his/her selection first as for this list, the choices are endless!!!

So you don't like 'Best __' or 'Worst ___' threads. I don't like 'How old are you?' threads. I don't go complaining about them and I wouldn't go deleting them if I were a mod.

This may not be the most creative thread but I don't see how it's not open for discussion. in fact Best ___ threads are probably just as much open to discussion as any other thread. Whether the people choose to or not is another matter.

Granted I am in a grumpy mood at the moment, but I don't actually care too much right now and the fact that you, a wise boardsie, has shunted and hijacked this thread with your opinion means I actually don't want to continue with it and I doubt many others will post in it so yeah, go ahead and delete it. (Actually not joking. You might as well)

Except they're not really open for discussion. From the charter of what we don't like:
    SPAMMING/POINTLESS THREADS
Do not start posting threads such as:
    ...snippy..
    * Posting Top 5/10/Whatever or Favorite threads. Example.

I'm fully in agreement with Karl on this. There's nothing constructive about it, and a list of film titles is just uninteresting.

A much better approach to what you were lookng for would to have started a thread entitled something like "What makes a good cheesy movie moment?" This is a question that can lead to a debate, with people pointing out scenes from movies in support of their argument. Then there's more involvement and participation by the poster. You win by getting a more detailed answer to your question and everyone else wins by a richer debate.

Darn, missed out on Film Awards - Phase 1 :/

Perhaps, a Best Cheesy Moment award is needed if its not too late :)

Ixoy, there's no Best Cinematography award ?

Nope. Noone mentioned it and it wasn't there last year so... I think your best bet is to place it under the Best Director award. Don't directors generally employ the same cinematographers in their work? I know it'll vary a little but I would have thought the likes of Cuaron had a heavy influence on the camera work of a movie like "Children of Men" or Paul Greengrass for "United 93".

Aw this is cheesy already. Maybe a movie can be made out of this...
(Just make the movie no reservation of copyright - just acknowledge boards.ie - K!)

Karl it's your own fault for getting the Car Chase thread moved from After Hours. You've reopened Pandora's box. For shame!

Cant we just lock the thread and leave its festering corpse as a reminder to those who make lists?
