Going to New York for St. Patrick's week. Just wondering do Bars in New York accept Irish driver's licenses? I just don't fancy bring around my passport in case I lose it and I'm also aware that even the real Irish driver's licenses look fake :p

Anybody any experience using this them as a form of ID in New York? Any problems?

Hey. I worked in NY for 3 summers in bars in the city. Your drivers licence will be grand, the most of the bars in the city are staffed by Irish people anyway so they will know its not fake, that we just have crap looking drivers licences!

    Have a great Paddys Day!

They aren't near as strict on ID in New York as they are in other parts of the states, so unless you look young you will likely be ok, whereas everywhere else they hassle you even if you look 30.

I used to work in an Irish themed casino and we had a zero acceptance of Irish driving licences policy. You would be amazed by the fakes that would be presented. My personal favourite was:

    Sean Smith
    24 Sugarbeet lane
    Ballydehob
    East Cork

    :D

True, I was there in '04. Myself and a few friends went to a bar for a bit of grub and a pint. Walked in, asked straight away are we Irish. We said yes and she asked what did we want to drink.
This was weird after spending the previous few months around Cape Cod. You need to have zimmer frame before they stop looking for ID.

In Utah, they ID everyone for alcohol and tobbaco sales regardless of age.

I used my garda ID once in Illinois. I wouldn't recommend trying that though so your drivers license should be ok I suppose.
