    Hi all,

just wondering if anybody else here has done the alpha course? i attended one recently in Lucan (through Trinity Lucan) and was most impressed, must say, i started it as a sceptic but when it was through i was a changed man, so to speak. The thing I particularly liked was that each person there could ask questions and give opinions, as opposed to going to mass and being preached at, it was much more interactive.

It would be nice to hear other's thoughts on the Alpha course and how, if at all, it has changed them.

Hope to hear from you soon
    Al

    Hi Alligator,

I attended an Alpha course about four years ago and not only was I impressed but it totally changed my view on Christianity. As a practicing Catholic I didn't think I needed the course, but on about the third week, my eyes were opened to the true message of Christianity. I had honestly never really understood why Jesus died on the cross other than the fact that he loves us, but that just didn't add up. If, as I had always thought, we would get in heaven by being 'half decent people' then there was absolutely no reason for the cross at all! Jesus could've merely come down from heaven, given us the sermon on the mount and other such teachings and then ascended back into heaven!

As I said it was about week three or four that I realised I cannot 'work' my way into heaven for then I wouldn't need Jesus at at all . I now understand that it is my acceptance of him dying on the cross and taking my sins with him is the only way I can ever make it to heaven. My sins have been washed awy by the shedding of his blood-not by my good works!!

So to your question; has the Alpha changed me? Absolutely yes!! Am now a member of an evangelical church were all teaching is directly from the bible ie.no 'man made' prayers, I attend abible study every week, where much like the Alpha we are free to question and discuss ( and we don't always agree!), and am also begining an Alpha for teens this week.

I think too many churches now use 'formulas' to teach the word of God, when in fact it is relationship God wants with us and dunno bout your relationships, but mine are certainly not based on any formula!

Sorry if bit long winded, but hope this helps or possibly encourages you...
