Having sersious probs after loading a new PCI USB 2 card.. none of my old USB ports now work.

    Before anyone asks :

Yes I tried deleting all USB entries in device manager and rebooting(thats why my old usb dont work no more)
Yes I tried downloading inf chipset drivers etc from mobo manufacturer (intel 850 chipset (garabaldi mb)
I've checked the bios and can see no problems.
I've tried using system restore and boot disks

Everest tells me my USB drivers are stopped and I have no clue how to "restart" them.

So.. do i go and reinstall windows or can anyone shed some light on my prob.. or recommend a non rip off related tecchie service to help me out

Yup.. been there too.. the pci card was made by VIA so I tried that site to make it work with no luck. Kept getting the generic hub triangle message in the device manager. (all this after just trying to use a new corsair usb key from komplett.)

So when the card buggered my old usb.. i pulled it out. all I want at this point is my old usb 1.1 back and I'll worry about the card myself later :(

No drivers should have been installed at all as XP SP2 has it's own drivers built into the OS for USB 1 & 2 controllers.

Forcing in drivers will only make the system unstable and screw up the USB sub system (the fact that your USB flash drive failed to work even on the built in USB1 controller would be an indication of an already present underlying problem).

The quick answer is I suggest you back up your data format the drive and re-install Windows XP.

If your XP CD is pre SP2 once XP loads do not install any drivers simply install SP2 and once it is finished and the system reboots install the drivers for the rest of the system components.

Thanks for the advice.. I really don't know why there was such a problem, I only did a clean install maybe 6-8 months ago when I got some new hard drives :S

Anyway will let you know if that works
