    Hi,

Having an issues with my wireless connection. I have the eircom 3347NWG wireless modem. i have that all connected to my desk top computer and that all works fine. This is where the problem there is : 3 people in the house have lap tops and i want to set up a wireless network so we can share files printers etc.

I have run the wireless network set up wizard and have the lap tops connecting thru the desktop. Now the laptops all work when i have the desktop turned off but when i turn the desktop on the laptops all disconnect. Its like when i turn the desktop on it shuts off the wireless connection.

Is there anyway i can resolve this, anyone got any help.

    Thanks.

presume you have connected the Desktop via USB ?

is so you will need to connect via the Ethernet port

Ok with PC off and all three laptops connected, what ip address does each laptop have? (use ipconfig). Now switch on PC and see what ip address it gets. Post back here with all 4 ips.

the laptop should'nt connect through that computer , they should be connecting direct to the router and getting ip addresses of 192.168.1.?

once working this way , sharing files is done seperately

don't use the network wizard !

yep, start->run->cmd. Command window opens and then you enter "ipconfig" there.

Hey here are the ip addresses,

    Laptop 1 : 192.168.1.3

    Laptop 2 : 192.168.1.101

    Laptop 3 : 192.168.1.9

The Subnet masks and default gateway have the same address on all the computers.

    And the PC?

Sorry forgot to include that one here it is its : 192.168.1.1

ok netopia is set by default to use 192.168.1.254 so unless the gateway on the laptops is set to 192.168.1.1 I don't see an ip conflict as being the problem.

Thanks for the help robins, yeah i know what you mean that there should not be an ip conflict. I just cannot figure it out i cant seem to set up a home wireless network to share files etc. I suppose i could eircom a buzz and see can they help but i doubt it.

Thanks for all the help anyway.
