in your router .. go to the security config

    Quick answer:

If you are setting up a wireless network you can generate one using the software that came with your router.

If you are trying to join a wireless network you will have to ask the person who set the network up to give you the wep key.

You can link to your router via its IP address – 192.168.1.1 – usually a default – once there you will be asked for a username and password – get the default from your documentation or the web site – its fairly straight forward from there to adjust the settings

Look without being insulting you do not know enough about this to start from this position. You have posted twice without giving any real information about the network or router and only giving a vague idea of what you want.

If you are setting up a new network you will need the documentation and CD that came with the router and will need to set it up in sequence in order to have a secure working network. (Read the Manual.)

If you already have a network it may be someone else set it up for you and if so you should consult them about wep keys and security in general.(Ask the Admin) If you set it up yourself you should consult the documentation or guide that came with the software. (Read the manual.)

If you are trying to join another network you will need to ask the administrator of that network. (Ask the Admin)

Get the brand and model number of the wireless router. Go to this website: http://portforward.com/routers.htm
Find your router and click on the link for it, if you read down it will give you the IP address of that router, this is the address that you need to enter into the address bar of any internet browser (firefox/IE).
Now plug the wireless router directly into your pc via whatever connection it has, you may need to unplug your broadband router first. Now enter the IP given by that website and you should be able to access the router and get the info.
Post up the make and exact model if you arent sure where to find the IP.

Sorry I'm a little confused by what you said.

Do you have any computers that connect to the wireless router?

Problem loading page is all im getting anytime i enter the ip address.
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WUSB54GS/default.htm thats the link.

Ok, so this is the IP you need to enter: 192.168.1.1. The user name and password will be "admin".
Have you connected the wireless router directly to the pc? Dont plug it in via the broadband modem, that just confuses things. What connection does it use?

If that is the correct Linksys hardware, then what you bought was a wireless USB adapter, and not a wireless router.

You will need set up Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to share the broadband connection. You then connect the Linksys via USB and set up an ad-hoc wireless network. But the PSP will need to support connecting to an ad hoc network, which I'm not sure if it does or not.

This page will give more info: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/

Is there ayone from churus who would just come up and sort it out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

No, it's nothing to do with them. They only support their equipment and problems with that equipment, nothing else.

Well prehaps if you post what EXACTLY you've done to try and get it working and EXACTLY what error messages/problems you get. We're not mind readers so you need to be as detailed as possible.

    WTF is churus?

The setup you are looking for is

    Internet<---> Modem <----> Wireless Router <----> PSP

Do you have a wireless router? If so, post up the make and model number. WEP is used on the wireless router.

That page is wrong. If you do have the WUSB54G it is NOT a router, so you can't set up any portforwarding on it. Anyway, port fowarding has nothing to do with WEP key.

Good idea, the wep key will either be printed on the modem or in the manual, make sure you get a wireless ROUTER.

Neither, the WEP you set yourself so it won't be printed anywhere.

Eircom modem? They preconfig the modem with a wep which is the same as the modom serial number. But you can change this to whatever.
