Might be of some interest to some of ye, from rte.ie/business.
The number of counterfeit euro banknotes in circulation fell slightly in the second half of 2006, data published by the European Central Bank showed today.

But the ECB said that overall, the level of counterfeiting had fluctuated only slightly over the last three years.

In the period from July to December, a total 265,000 forged notes were pulled out of circulation, down from 300,000 in the first half of 2006 and also slightly lower than the 286,000 recorded in the second half of 2005, the ECB said in a statement.

The €20 banknote was the most widely forged note, accounting for 36% of all counterfeits seized during the period from July to December. Until recently, the €50 note had always been the most widely forged note.

    Very interesting.

What happens if you get stung with a forged note anyway? Report it to the cops or central bank? or both?

The Gardai are meant to/should have setup a branch for forged banknotes and other cash security issues.
