1x12 Recommendation

Our Roadie is bitching every single night about my 4x12, and it's taking up a lot of space on some of our smaller stages. So our Manager has offered to buy me a decent 1x12, my rack setup will stay the same powering it. Any suggestions boys? Mesa springs to mind, but what are ENGL like?

ENGL are very similar to Mesa, just not as expensive. Although with that said, you can find more speaker varieties with Mesa.

ENGL are pretty much in the same league as Mesa. The reason theyre cheaper is mainly just shipping costs (Mesa arent really that expensive in the US).

ENGL do a vertical 2x12 as well. Good sound projection, and wont take up any more stage space.

What type of speakers are in the cab you're replacing? What's the wattage, and what's the impedance?

Mesa all the way, I've a couple of them and can handle any gig :)

SWR Redhead Super Combo, apparently this is an amazing unit if you want to downsize, I have only ever heard good things.

available in many colours, mines a burgundy 2x12 with vintage 30's
and they'll fit whatever celestion you like (i'd suggest one of the nyodium models, extremely light and very, very loud!)

Yeah, i like those matamp cabs, great build quality, plus custom options.

I'd say because they're overpriced and because it might not sound anything at all like your present cab.

Honestly Eoin, no 1x12 is going to sound like my 4x12 no matter what I do. It's not an issue, because my rack Mackie Poweramp can drive 2, 4 or 8 Ohm, and has a min of 200 Watts, and a max of 800, that and the GT-Pro can pretty much replicate any sound I want. I just want something that'll put up with the abuse our Roadie gives it, and I like the build and quality of Mesa.

That goes without saying. But some will be closer than others. It's really down to how much work you want to do getting a sound you like out of the new cab, assuming you have a sound you like as it is.
