    Hi,
my brother is going to visit me in Dublin and stay for two weeks.
Hi is going to ride here on motorbike from Poland.
Am I allowed to ride his bike during his visit in Dublin if I am resident of ROI?

He is owner of this bike and has Polish comprehensive insurance but I am also on this insurance as second driver.

read the insurance document, does it cover you driving it abroad?
do you have a full motorbike license?

No. It is illegal for a resident of the State to drive a temporarily imported vehicle (apart from very limited circumstances, mainly work-related, which would not apply to you).

The bike (or car) can be seized by the Gardai in these circumstances.

Hmmm... Not sure about that. If you have owner approval and you are legally insured, I doubt it is illegal to do so... And I'd be surprised if Gards gave you grief about it...

Definitely illegal under VRT legislation. If you're Irish resident you cannot drive a foreign registered vehicle. Otherwise it would be a loophole and anyone stopped would claim they were just borrowing it from their non-resident friend, etc.

Gardai might take an interest at a checkpoint. Customs can seize the vehicle on the spot if they so much as suspect a VRT offence (and they don't just operate at the ports.)

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
