Problem with IDE drive in SATA computer

I have a PC with an ASUS K8V motherboard. It has been running fine with two SATA disks. Recently I came into possession of an IDE disk. When I added it into the PC the boot-up process gets as far as recognising the IDE drive and says " Ultra DMA mode 5, SMART capable and status OK". Then the boot process seems to stop. It doesn't matter if I connect the drive as Slave or Master, secondary or primary. If I press "del" to get into the BIOS set up the it says "entering setup" but nothing happens.

This IDE drive was previously in a Sky plus box.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Just for the record, I got this sorted. I "hot-plugged" in the drive after the PC was booted (not recommended ;) ). Then I tried to format the drive using XP and even from the DOS box. Very time-consuming but no luck. Finally I downloaded DiskWizard from the Seagate site and it very quickly was able to delete some pre-existing Sky + partition which Windows could not see and format the drive. Result!:D
