    Go to San Fran, much more laid back crowd than most cities.

    From what I hear, San Fran would be the place to go. Was in Boston for a summer on a J1 a few years back and talked to loads of people who went on J1's and San Fran seemed to be the best place

    The OP's question was about joining a group of people to go on the trip with.

    If you don't get to go with a crowd, you'll probably meet a load of people anyway. You'll get a job quick enough if your looking on your own and the americans are dead friendly from my experience anyway. Good luck

    I lived in a cool house in Cape Cod. The landlord rents the rooms out to different groups of students mostly Irish. It is a good option if you are traveling alone as there will be a load of other people living in the house. The landlord will also get you a job if needed. The houses in on the beach in Dennisport about 1 1/2 hours from Boston. He has spaces left let me know if you are interested and I can get him to call you.
