    Hi Carfax,

    Can you please post the information required about the National Student Championship so we can clearly see exactly whats going on. Many things have changed over the past few weeks and the is way to much to read to get all info! Please keep this thread to Fact only as it would be great to have one with only correct info and not with a load of critics

    Thanks

    Hi Carfax,

    Can you please post the information required about the National Student Championship so we can clearly see exactly whats going on. Please keep this thread to Fact only as it would be great to have one with only correct info and not with a load of critics

    Thanks

    Hi Yop,

    Very good point.....I was getting very confused myself with all the different threads, but this tournament has been a bit of an unfolding drama for me.

    The whole idea behind this tournament and the reason I wanted to run it (besides making a few quid) is that it;
    (a) Offers students that would normally be used to a crap-shoot to compete in a really big tournament.
    (b) To bring poker into the public domain a little bit more and try to make more people see that it is not a gamble and is a sport.
    (c) Just for the hell of it.

    Here's all the facts that I can think of right now.....This might get a bit longwinded;

    1. The National Student Poker Championship 2007 takes place in the RDS, Concert Hall, Ballsbridge, D4 on January 27th. 888/Pacific Poker are sponsoring the event....[Blind structure (modelled off the WSOP), tournament rules and other details were posted here on boards as per charter and can be found now on www.pokerireland.ie in the NSPC 2007 tab].

    2. Play will start at 12 noon sharp on Jan 27th but all players should be aware that we will not be able to take cash entries on the day and all players must register before Jan 25th through www.pokerireland.ie

    3. Entry costs €72 (€65 + €7 registration fee) and this must be paid into your online Pacific Poker Account.
    Paying money into Pacific is really easy and besides accepting credit/laser cards, ukash pre-paid vouchers and lots of other payment methods
    Poker Ireland are also accepting cash registration before Jan 20th.

    Ukash are prepaid vouchers that are sold in units of € 30 € 50 & € 100, and work just like mobile phone credit.
    Ukash are sold in the following location in Dublin City-

    SPAR LIFFEY ST
    SPAR LR ABBEY ST
    SUPER VALU ASTON QUAY
    CENTRA CAMDEN ST
    NO 8 BAGGOTT ST
    SPAR ASHTOWN
    LUCKY DUFFY PARNELL ST

    ....To pay with cash;
    Lodge €80 into any Bank of Ireland.
    Account Name; Tournament Poker Ireland Ltd.
    Sort Code; 90 11 67
    Account Number; 56106875
    Once you lodge €80 - you need to reference the lodgement with your full name & keep the lodgement receipt - you need to email stephen@pokerireland.ie with your postal address and I will post you €80 worth of Ukash vouchers with instructions for online registration.

    I will also be at lots of colleges over the course of the next two weeks taking cash for registrations and also physically registering players with my laptop.....If you would like me to call out to your college you can email or text/ring me.....Anywhere in Ireland, not just Dublin.

    4. There are lots of bonuses included in this tournament, these are;
    (a) All players receive a US$20 bonus once they lodge €72, click on 'Multi-table' and scroll down to register in the 'Irish National Student Poker Champs' - Jan 25th registration closes....The idea behind this bonus is so that players can have some extra money to play a bit of poker on Pacific.

    (b) $1,000 last longer bonus for all players registered before Jan 14th (tomorrow at 12 midnight).....During the tournament the longest lasting player of all those registered before this time will receive $1,000......we will be doing our best not to let other players know who is involved in the last longest.

    (c) $1,000 best overall college team bonus. See thread here on boards for details of the different colleges with teams involved.....Again we are going to do our best not to show who is on a team and who is not.

    5. If we get the support of all the Dublin colleges (I'm looking at Trinity and UCD here) we will easily get 400 players for this event. All of the college poker society heads around the country have given me huge amounts of support (both moral and through telling players about it) so I really hope this continues.
    This tournament will be fully dealer dealt, 100% prize-pool payout and I hope it runs in an extremely professional and smooth manner. 90% of the dealers there will be highly experienced......Go easy on the other 10%.

    6. I will be tournament director and any ruling I make will be in the interest of the game but it will also be final.

    Hope you all can make it on the 27th.

    I have put an awful lot of work into this so far but I also have to give a lot of thanks to other tournament organisers that have been and are helping me out a lot including; JJP PokerMania, VegasNights, The Merrion/Jackpot are just a few that have all helped out in a big way and lots of other casinos have been promoting the event too.

    On pacific poker it says $72 to register, if we register will it take $72 or $94 (€72) from our accounts?

    It will take $72 but make sure you deposit a min of $92 as you won't be able to register otherwise.

    when does it take the rest? I've registered now, and it took the 72. If i spend the other 20 will it unregister me?

    no it wont, the twenty is suppose to be so you will play on their site, that way you will become addicted to poker and eventually they will repossess your house. DUH!

    so is this a €72 or a $72(€55) tournament? Just checking, not complaining!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

    its €72 in the prizepool, ie for every one person who registers and pays €72 is going into the prize pool, however you pay only $72 and pacific pker pay the extra money to convert the $72 to €72, this is an incentive to play on their site.

    Hmmn well I registered and deposited exactly $72 on the site and it worked fine for me.

    No worries,
    Its a €65 + €7 reg tournament. e.g. 400 players means a €26,000 prizepool....its being bumped up by Pacific.

    The idea is you lodge $92, pay $72 in and try out Pacific Poker with the remaining $20.

    Was only joking there Cooker, obviously.

    Should mention though that it is a term of entry that you lodge US$92 onto your account even though you're only paying US$72 to play - (this gets confusing with all the conversions).

    Pacific could call you (or more likely me) up on it.

    It's funny in the 5 million threads that I have read on this that I managed to miss this. Ah well if they just contact you then I don't have to worry about it :)

    Two weeks to go and 60 players, fingers out lads ;)
    anyway, 888 raped me today, ran into house into quads, set of jacks with ace kicker into a house, and 9 10 J Q A flush into the Royal. I hate cash.

    On the other hand, the tourney games are nicer. started with the cheapest feeder i could find, got through to the sub-satalite, just came 12th for a ticket in the satalite, and now im in the Irish open quailifer starting in 2 hours.

    The crap will be shot.

    If you're in UCD or Trinity can you please contact your poker society people.

    I've been in contact with them but can't seem to get anywhere with them. If lots of players start getting on to them I'm sure they would do a bit of work.

    All it would take is one quick group email telling players about the Student Champs' and asking them to visit www.pokerireland.ie to register before Jan 25th.

    Lots of UCD and Trinity players are going to miss out on the $1,000 last longer bonus because they don't know about the tournament yet but they should all be at least told that the tournament is on in the RDS on Jan 27th.

    GoodLuck2Me lives on campus in UCD (PM him he won't mind) and has loads of flyers and Trinity also have flyers which I hope students can see around the campus.

    We should get at least 100 players from UCD especially because its only down the road from the RDS and Trinity should have a similar number of players.....I'm happy to call out to both colleges once there are a few players that want me to help them to register.

    I know at the moment that the very least amount of players we are going to have for this tournament is 250 and it could well go over 400 even without a majority of UCD/Trinity players involved.......

    I just want to get the maximum number of players possible (we're not really capping it and if 600 players or more want to play we will accomodate them) to make this a real National Tournament that we can hold every year and get even better promotional and player value as it grows.

    Everything right Mellor just that the blinds will be 40 minutes (subject to 400 players)......If we only get say 200 players (which is looking like worst case scenario right now) I will increase the time frames to about an hour......Point is that I will be trying my best to bring back the final 9 players for day two and will work out the blind time frames when registration closes.

    Hope the earlier post helped Yop;
    Everything is listed on http://www.pokerireland.ie/index.php/nspc/ except for the food thing which I will get up there as soon as I get a chance.

    Players will have to buy their own food on the day and we will have people serving drinks (which will have to be paid for too)......

    I should also mention that although the dealers will be getting paid above average (they are all going to be top quality people) we will probably be asking (with no obligation) for players to leave a euro or two in a box at the registration desk for dealers tips.....All winnings are being paid online so we therefore don't expect the winning players to leave any tips.....Not that we would ever expect it of anyone but just if the winner happens to be a nice person they might find it hard to tip when they are not getting the cold cash in their hand on that very day.

    That is more then fair Stephen, i'd say its one of the most annoying things for dealers is when they find out the winner isnt being paid there and then, or else if they are playing for tickets or something.

    Fair play.

    Cheers man,

    I must send around a group email letting players know about this (once registration closes of course and there is no escape).....

    Just one quick reminder for anyone that is reading about the Student Champs' here for the first time......All players that register before 12 midnight tonight are eligible for a $1,000 last longer bonus. Theoretically as it is right now you could still finish 320th of 400 runners and get yourself a grand.....For details click on the link below.......

    shouldnt that be 317th ??

    shouldnt that be 317th ??

    No it shouldn't be 317th.......There are actually more than 83 players in the last longer as you know Clamper......

    For anyone thats involved in the last longer bonus we'll publish a full list of usernames later today.....I think its only fair as there were 8 or 9 players that were trying for a good week to get registered but because of the way the tournament is set up on Pacific couldn't do so.....Still great value with only 90 of probably 400 in for the $1,000 imo.

    sure why not, unless either of us go very deep it wont be much, I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a wild prediction, me, Phantom Lord and Lloyd to playing three handed however the three handedness will last for severel days and severel nights with blinds ever increasing and people constantly doubling up via the chip leader at that time, finally with exactly 5bb left we all get it in preflop, Lloyd went all in from the dealer button quickly called by myself in small blind with Phantom lord calling(some might say slow rolling but i disagree there was a decision to make) after about twenty seconds. L Dog doesnt look happy turning over his suited AK, I look indifferent with KK fearing the worst from after me, P L turns over AA and myself and Lloyd are in a world of pain... With the flop coming down QJ10 Lloyd slams his fist on the table and makes that angry face he makes. However the case king on the turn gives P L ties the pot with Lloyd giving him further outs to take the pot, and ultimately the title, I am left drawing to the case ace, but shockingly it comes out on the river Leaving the board AKQJ10 with no possible end in sight.

    Carfax and the rest of the poker ireland crew decide that it is becoming a bit of a crapshoot, something no one wanted it to be, and therefor decides to reset the blinds back to 25/50 with the average stack being well above 100k.

    We go on to play three handed for 19 years and are largely forgot about.....

    Keep the registrations coming peops.....10 days to go until Jan 27th but registration closes on Jan 25th.

    The minimum number of players that we will have (as it stands right now) is 250 but if college socs support this event (and make their players play or else) we will get close to if not more than 400 and a prizepool of €26,000......

    Realistically, what are the chances of this tournament having 400 players?
    I'd like to play but as I'd have to take a night of work I won't be doing so unless there are 200 regged by the 25th.

    Not yet, I'm sure he's busy with exams.....Would like to get the team names up as soon as possible though.....

    I'm just having one of those few minutes where I'm getting really worried.....Over 250 players have emailed me saying they wanted to play and lots more are contacting me now but only 113 have officially registered so far.......Does this add up?

    I know the event is still over a week away but please register soon it will make the days between now and the tournament a little less stressful.
