Can't open DVD case - little red stopper/plug!

Bought a few dvds in HMV yesterday and only when I got home did I realise one had a red plug thing preventing the case being opened. It must be some sort of security measure though I've never seen one before.
Tried in vain to get it out with a knife and a corkscrew! Don't want to rip the whole dvd case apart.
Anyone ever seen one of these and any ideas on getting it out?!

what's the DVD? Is it a normal casing or a limited edition box etc..? Where about on the case is the device located? Sounds very odd.
    Can you attach a piccy?

Never heard of them meself. I know they sometimes slap a small white plastic strip on the opening side that can be a little bitch to get off. Sharp nails usually flick it out though.

Sounds like someone else had the same problem:

Tried uploading a photo there. Didn't want to go on!
Anyway it's pretty much as that guy in the link Spurious provided describes.
I don't really wanna rip the case apart though.
Maybe if I bring it to a music shop they'd be able to take it out. Won't be in Dublin again for a while.
DVD is Knowing Me Knowing You-Alan Partridge... Just a regular case.

    Yeah that's the fu*cker!!

Bloody hell, it goes the whole way through the case! Thought it was confined to the edge of the box.
Hmmm... Don't think it's gonna slide out anyway.

LOL i know what you are thinking (as i was) but once you smash the case open if thats what you plan to do the lil thing sticks its middle finger up at you and slides out without a problem. I wonder how the staff in the stores do it.

It looks so innocent from the outside.
Well, maybe i'll drop into a shop and ask them if they have a way of removing it. Though they might not be too happy to do it if I didn't buy it there.
    Otherwise.... It's smashing time!
    Thanks.

After purchasing hundreds of dvds over the past few years I seen one of these little red buggers for the first time on a DVD i got for christmas. No matter what I tried I couldnt move the thing, so I brought it back to HMV(actually I got some to bring it back for me:p ). They took it off no problem and said they arent supposed to be on the dvds. Their the equivalent of security tags on clothes(Thought I dont think their supposed to beep), just bring them back to the shop to get taken off, dont try it yourself.
