Cant get DVD to work on Laptop

    i cant get any dvd to work on my laptop. everytime i try play one i get a message saying that windows media player has encounteredc a problem and needs to close. does any one know how i can sort this out. thanks in advance

    Try using VLC Media player.

    yes same thing happens with real player etc, doing my head in at this stge

    thanks ruu it works using vlc now. Do you know how i can get it to work on either windows media player or real player.its just annoying me

    Not sure, your DVD player could be region locked and hence the other media players throwing up that message. VLC media player ignores the region setting so thats why it plays without any problems.

    Lots of the time latops are preloaded with all the software except the dvd playing one. Look through the cds that came with it and see if there is one called cineplayer or similar. this happened to two dudes I know.

    thnaks daaragh will check that on monday as away for weekend now. seems silly if thet do that a lot. reckon someone who knows a bit about computers would sort it quickly. also the error i am getting is telling me to check the computers settings. dony have a clue how to go about this. any ideas

    The settings for the DVD ROM drive would be under Start->Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->DVD/CD ROM drives->[your drive listed here], then just double click on it. Let me know what it shows under DVD Region, Changes Remaining.

    Many DVD drives can be 'fixed' to stop that region changes nonsense.

    Yeah, Region 2 is Western Europe so that would be okay. Is it a special kind of DVD that maybe is causing the other media players to crash?

    You could try rolling back to a previous version of Windows Media Player.
