Doggy eating bad things

    Hi,

My dog got sick last week, violently ill. I took her to the vet and after x rays blah blah, they found stuff stuck in her stomach, intestines and bowel. She was operated on and they removed the things giving her trouble. She is now house bound with the cone on her head. The problem is that she continues to eat stuff when left alone. I got home for lunch today and she had the cone opened and a section eaten. I am worried about that now but I'm also worried about what she will do in the future. I dont think I could afford another vet bill :( the last one nearly broke me. Good advice would be greatly appreciated, especially from someone who has gone through the same!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but in the short term there is no other solution but to have somebody watch her.

Dogs do not learn from having been operated on, and she will most likely continue her bad habit of eating things she shouldn't.

Long term you will have to train her to be able to stay alone and relaxed, but this will most likely be a long-ish pocess as I suspect that she is eating things out of separation anxiety which takes a lot of time and patience to counteract.
