Right I promise I looked first for a simialar thread first.................

...........I lied to my Sky Installer and promised to run my phone cable to my new Sky+ box today. He has registered the card and everything is working - but he reckons a phone line is needed at some point or quote "you will have problems in a few weeks or months"

Now is this just him telling me Skys requirements or in 6 weeks time will my Sky+ box spontaneously implode and maim the hamster?

    - Last Panasonic Sky box saw a telephone line for 10 min.s on day 1 and worked away the finest for the next 5 years without one.

    - I really don't want to run more bloody cable or spend money on the wireless phone point yoke.

    Hi,

I have Sky + for about a year and it is not connected to the phone line - no problem. They used the phone during set-up but never since.

Only the mirror sub "really" needs the phone. But your contract may insist on one for the first year.

I'm going to hijack this thread :)

Don't have a phone line, but want sky, can anyone recommend (here or PM me)an installer that would set the box up elsewhere and then install it? oh, I'm in the blanch clonsilla area.

I doubt you'll find one. You can still get sky, but you will have to pay for the box/dish/install yourself. Hence you won't be tied to a 12 month min subscription.

That's not fully true. While you can pay outright for equipment, you can still avail of the free box and gear offer, but have to pay Sky/Installer a fee of €37.50 for No Phone Line install.
