MP3 player won't upload songs

Hi folks, I recently bought an mp3 player off ebay similar to this one. It works grand and I reccommended it to a friend. He then bought a similar one off some local guy who was selling them. Unfortuntely he couldn't upload songs onto it so he asked me to have a look at it.

The mp3 player itself works, and there was already some song preloaded onto it, which plays, but when I connect it to my computer it's not recognised by media player or winamp. Also when I try and click on it in my computer it tells me the device needs to be formatted. Im afraid if i do this it will wipe off the software which runs the thing! Obviously there's no guarantee with it. Any suggestions as to what I can do? Cheers.

Em, are you running XP? Normally if you have the latest version of Windows Media Player running, it will recognise almost any mp3 player that is writable. If you disconnect and reconnect your player wil WMP is open, does WMP do anything at all?

Can you find any details on the player or in its properties about what it is, a manufacturer/model anything at all? I had an old Creative Muvo and it stopped being recognised so i deleted everything, and this included the software, but i was able to find the driver/software online to get it playing songs again.

Yea, running XP. No media player isn't recognising it. I think the fact that I cant open it in windows explorer means tis a bit funked. I've no idea where I could find the software/driver for it but sure I'll have a gander! Thanks for the suggestions.
