Michael Mann remaking The Searchers? Maybe

He and Eric Roth (with whom he wrote The Insider and Ali) are working on a western called Comanche, which is based on the real life events that inspired The Searchers. However it will stick much closer to the facts which were significantly more complex than that portrayed in the John Ford original. There's almost no other info on this at the moment but Mann has been talking about doing a western for years. It had at first been rumoured he was working with Roth on the Hatfields And McCoys (which Roth is now developing for Brad Pitt). Of course this project is only in development and may never happen but Mann said during the Miami Vice press rounds that he was eager to back into it. Of course after Miami Vice's poor box office he may have a struggle getting an expensive project like this green lit.

I for one, really hope this happens. Mann's visual style is heavily inspired by the western, most of his crime films are essentially modern day westerns, and if anyone could revive the genre it's Mann.

Cool, I've never seen The Searchers, old John Wayne films never appealed to me, but Mann kicks ass, I liked all of his films, even Miami Vice.

Brilliant one of my favourite westerns of all time, being remade by one of my favourite directors! Cannot wait!

When I seen the title of this thread I was all ready for a big rant about how remakes are slowly corroding hollywood from the inside. But that actually sounds quite good. Ill look forward to it.:)
