Hey, me and a few mates of mine are heading to amsterdam around april. There is about 12 of us going. looking for a hostel fairly central or in a good location in the city. Aiming for around 20 euro a person for a night (less is possible). staying for 5 nights. Anyone have any recommendations?

Hey, I stayed in the Flying Pig (Downtown) when i was there. It was a great place. Only thing is it is a relaxed place. not for stags and that. Well worth checking out anyways!

I agree with Flying Pig (Downtown) poster. Fun place and very central.

I stayed at the Hans Brinker and the only complaint would be that the windows opened outwards however they only opened about an inch because there are bars on the outside of the windows. Not nice in the middle of summer with 10 drunken people passed out in the room. I've not stayed at the Flying Pig but have only heard good reviews.

Wat is the Flying Pig Uptown like? is it a bit out of the way?

The Uptown is still within easy each of the town centre and it's in a much nice and quieter area than the downtown one.

Just wondering would it be far of a walk from good night clubs/pubs/transportation. When u say nicer and quieter wat do u mean exactly?

Is uptown in a quiet area with nothing much around it?

    Is downtown too loud?

This is a great hostel. http://www.bulldoghotel.com/
They lay claim to being a 5 star hostel.

I spent some time looking at different hostels and decided on this one when i last went to them dam. Has its own bar and smoke shop.

Its much cleaner than the Flying pig from what I have heard from my mates aswell.

    Check out the website

I've stayed in the Flying pig twice, there's nothing wrong with the place but I've been there done that. It gets a very young trendy crowd that aren't that outgoing.

Bobs is supposed to be really good and is always recomended by smokers I think I'll be going there next time I go, buldog is supposed to be very geared towards the smoking tourist. There's also dirty nellys it's an Irish pub/hostel it doesn't allow smoking but is right in the middle of the redlight district.

Go to Hostelworld.com for a full list of cheap accomodation, including houseboats and apartments.

Don't say there are 12 of you either you won't get a place in any hostel if you do, most don't allow groups of more than 5 lads but they might make an exeption seeing as your not English.
