I spotted a post about this over on Archiseek. Is transport enabling the Minister to have an ego trip?

Nothing new here really. Polititians will always try to garner some favourable publicity whenever a new project begins or reaches completion. Health ministers open new hospitals, education ministers open new schools. They're good photo ops.

My apologies, Cartoon Head. I edited my post after you had posted yours.

I agree, Ministers and other politicians will try to garner publicity for themselves. But don't you think that the coverage of Minister Cullen's involvement on the "Transport 21" website is a little excessive?

Health ministers open new hospitals, education ministers open new schools.

The don't just open them. They announce them, announce them again under a new heading, turn the sod on them, open them. That's at least 4 photo ops per project.

I take your point alright, his name is plastered all over the site! Even so, it's common practice for polititians to try to get their name out there as much as possible since when it comes to election time a lot of folks just go with the name they know well despite not knowing a damn thing about the person. Besides, if it wasn't Cullen, or even FF for that matter, it would just be somone else doing it. The important thing is being wise to these little tricks.

Ah, the old classic of announcing the funding over and over. Always brings a smile to my face.

Don't like the T21 site. It's full of news items like the opening of Kinsalebeg, which is a measly 2.6 km of single carriageway, ffs. Big swing. Now get moving on the metros.
