problems with laptop on wi-fi connection

    ok prob in more detail,

the laptop stays connected to the broadband and google talk and messenger remain active while computer is being unused for a period of time. However, internet browsing is impossible after this idle period of time - the computer has to be restarted (and as you can see from the specs in my sig) this takes a considerable amt of time. It doesn't matter wether it is Opera, Firefox or IE7, I can't browse the internet

The PC in my sig is also on a wi-fi connection to the same network and never does this so IMO this rules out router settings, what could be the problem?

Is there a companion thread to this one somewhere?
I get the impression there is, but I'm not seeing it.

    Anyway...
Have you ever tried going into device manager and opening the properties to your wireless dongle/adaptor, going into the 'power management' tab and unchecking 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'.
I'm not sure if that ever causes these problems, but I'd be interested in the result out of curiosity.

power save mode on the adaptor is 'disabled' so that's not it :( cheers for the quick reply though

I've also purchased a new laptop and the wireless connection is ****ing disgraceful. It's not the signal because my last laptop, same card, worked with no problems.
