Hi everyone, don't suppose NE1 has any opinions on the Bons Maternity in Cork? Is it top class or just the same as all the rest (except with a price tag?!) Thanks in advance for any opinions.

I was born there, and I'd say I turned out pretty damn exceptional... ;)

I think it's pretty good, but I've no idea if it's better or worse than other places.

The new Maternity Hospital in CUH will we be opening in March with, I expect, top notch facilities. My advice is keep your legs closed until March! :D

heard some good and bad, most of the people i know though have gone to finbarrs or erinville, and all was fine... only difference ? price.. and that would be 1-2 grand at least.
and anyway you would more than likely end up in a semi-private room like finbarrs or erinville
best of luck.. might be worth not pushing till the new maternity unit in cuh opens !! :D

There aren't that many boards.ie members that have had babies - least not too many females that have gone through the business end of having babies - you might be better asking for info on Rollercoaster or Magicmum. I've had 3 last only 14 weeks ago - but twas in Dublin and remember no matter what hospital you ask about you'll hear great stories and horror stories - just use your common sense.

    Best of luck

Yeah, surely all maternity services will have moved to CUH by the time your baby is due to be born?

The Bons is private, so maybe it's staying open?!?!

no, the maternity section is also transferring to cuh as well, there was a dispute with the bons nurses not wanting to transfer to cuh or something a while back..... the bons have had a bit of bad press maternity wise last few years, saw a few legal cases in the paper last year..

I thought Finbarrs was also talking about not moving? Have they sorted out parking for CUH yet?

Working in CUH part-time - Parking is ridiculous at the moment. There are plans for a Park and Ride though, but don't know when it'll be sorted.
