    Hi,

I am going to Paris next week for 4 days. Il be staying just off the Arc de Triomphe and was told that all of the restaurants around this area are very expensive. I really dont want to be paying over 50 quid for food each nite so does nebody know of any good restaurants in this area!?

I was there last week, just get a metro out of the main toursit area. We were in montmatre, near Sacre Couer. Lotsa restaurants, I'd recommend the steak in Le Restaurant, ask for directions from montmatre metro. €16-25 for most main courses. Real nice.
For pubs try Oberkampf metro stop and ask for the main bar area.

    Lucky you!

The myth about Paris being expensive is nonsense. Yes you can pay huge money if you want but relative to Dublin it is much more reasonable.

I cant remember the places I have eaten in down the years but all I can say to you is wander along the georgous streets and check the prices, 8/10 times they will be very reasonable, very good and a great athmosphere!

If you have one check out the Rough Guide who should be able to give you some recommendations in your area.

    Enjoy!

It's not near Arc De Triomphe but only a short hop on the Metro...

Very very popular with tourists and locals. Expect to pay 25 euro a head incl wine. Starters are 3 euro, mains about 12, deserts 5.
Very close to Grands Boulevards metro station, on a side street. The more French you try to speak the happier the waiters will be, they are rushed off their feet sometimes. (It's not for a long romantic dinner.)

    Bon Ap!

You'll get decent food at reasonable prices anywhere in Paris, provided you just walk for a couple of minutes from the major tourist spots.

A lot of the bigger bars do bistro type food. Try to stay away from the tourist traps with their "Prix Fixe" or "Formule x€" menus, particularly around the left bank/Latin Quarter. You'll get much better value elsewhere. Try to stay away from the chain restaurants too, the likes of George V for example. They are Paris' answer to Angus Steak Houses in London!

There's some great places around Les Halles (but NOT in Les Halles) too, if you head out that direction.

To save money, make sure they give you bread with your meal, which is normally free. Great filler!

It's true though that your area is expensive but the metro is cheap, stops every 2 minutes or so and runs until 2am on weekends so don't be afraid to venture out.

Fixed menus ar typical in Paris and 3-courses for less than €25 is generally easy to find. They aren't all toursit traps, esp. those that don't have English translations.

This may sound weird but for your first night you could try one of the new Irish bars in town that specialise is very good food, the latest being The Lollipop close to the Les Halles area., just to get your barings before you head off eating snails :)

If you need an actual list of good, cheap places then reply here and I'll let you know or just give me a buzz when you get to Paris.
