    Hi,

I currently have a full car driver's license. Does this legally entitle me to ride a 50cc scooter?

    Thanks in advance

    Step 1: take out licence
    Step 2: read licence
Step 3: refer to steps 1 and 2

Sorry feeling a little sarcastic this morning ;)

Yeah yeah yeah, thanks a bunch. (Sense the sarcasm right back at ya :) )

I left my license at home - anyone have any ideas?

No, your car licence doesn't cover you unless it includes class M:
Two wheeled vehicles with an engine size not exceeding 50cc and/or a speed capability no more than 45 km/h. Minimum age requirement - 16 years.
Hope you didn't drive to work?

Yes. Holding a full licence in category B also entitles you to drive vehicles in Categories W (Work Vehicles) and M (scooters < 50cc). Note that "Less than" sign. Most scooters are 49cc for this very reason. You don't need to have the M category added to your licence, though you can if you wish.

The scooter must also be restricted to 45km/h to fall within class M.

A non-restricted 50cc will easily top this, so needs an A1 or A licence.
I'd advise the OP to get the provisional A1 (or A if s/he ever might want a bike over 125cc.) and whatever they do to take good TRAINING

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

OK, I've just been down to the Motor Tax office and I was told that I don't need to have the "M" category explicitly stamped on my license as category "B" supersedes it.

Incidentally, category "M" encompasses scooters <=50cc (as opposed to <50cc)

The clerk did put a note on the respective computer records to acknowledge that I did visit the Motor Tax office for this purpose, just in case.

    Thanks All.

I requested that they stamp M and W on my licence as I have all the other 12 categories but they refused. :( I think it would look better.

Probably because it'd be a waste of their valuable time
