Get rid of Limewire and anything you may have downloaded with it, more than likely riddled with viruses. Try running anti-spyware and anti-virus scans in Safe Mode. Is there anything that displays the temperature of your graphics, cpu, etc? Could be something overheating.

    thanks ruu,

    ok, i got a cpu pentium 4 2.8, 1gb ram ddr2 400 dimm, nvidia 6600 gt 128 ram all cooked up on gigabyte p4 titan ga-8vm800m.

threw it all together quite quickly, but everything should work, had it all double checked also.

i do not have any viruses etc, already checked.

driver has definitely been installed for graphics card also ! and have most of it on the lowest ettings.

i mean i know it is not the most demanding of systems, but still high spec enough to handle most things.

    so any ideas ?

in answer to your question, no, not that i am aware of any temperature display,

    thanks

You could use memtest to check the RAM.

definitely get rid of limeware..why anyone would put this onto a pc is beyond..it's like leaving your front door open for the robbers to walk in..
Another thing is are you using the same speed memory dimms.
One pc I was recently looked at kept crashing when installing BF2 etc.
Eventually figured it out to be two sets of dimms, both of which were different speeds..motherboard was compatible with both but they wouldn't work together.

Sounds like a power supply issue.

i am sure 100% that the ram is cool.

it is a new machine, and i have fully installed so far :

    call of duty
    fear

these crash mid load, after the intro screen. i have not even attempted to load any of my other games, like hl2 for example until i get this problem fixed

however it did occur to me that perhaps if i installed an older game, that might work, so installed farcry, and it works fine !!!!!

so it seems to be with the newer games, however my spec is definitely high enough to handle these games on fairly decent settings.

also crashed through the install of limewire - i know alot of people think this is dodgy, but i have used it for ages on my old pc, and never had any problems, mind you i had alot of security stuff to protect it.

    so any ideas guys ?

    thanks in advance !

Make sure the latest dx9 release is installed. install the latest motherboard drivers from the website of the manufacturer.

You could run DXDIAG and check that it passes the various DX tests.
Hit START, RUAN, tyre dxdiag, hit yes. Change to Display tab. Check that all DirectX features are enable. Hit Test DirectDraw, wait for it to pass, then hit Test Direct 3D.
If it fails these then you have a definite GPU/DX issue.
If not maybe export your system and application event logs to a .CSV (comma seperated) file and link it here so we can see if there are any errors worth noting.
Also check device manager for any amber or red marks.
Both of these are found by right clicking MyComputer and selecting manage.

    ehm, sorted !

it would appear the driver that came with the gfx card, was out of date !

thanks to past poster for providing link to update drivers !

sometimes the simplest thing can be staring you right in the face and you miss it !

    cheers guys !
