Sustainers?

I was looking at the Fernandes Sustainer, saw the video they have up on the site (here), and thought it was pretty cool. I was thinking of getting one (At the moment I play a Squier Strat, which I hope to be replacing pretty soon, so I don't mind ripping it apart for the Sustainer kit), anyone have an experience of them? Or would I be better off with an Ebow?

I've heard of a few other Sustainers, too, but I haven't read into them. Anything else worth checking out?

    Thanks

i've got both,a japanese squier strat from the 80's that i fitted a fernandes kit into and an ebow, the on board unit is defnitely easier to use,
ebow sounds a little more intense though

Theres sustainiac too, thats the main rival to sustainer. The difference between them all is pretty much laid out in the feature list on the websites.

One point to note is most of them require a route for a battery compartment on the rear. Depending on how particular you are about your guitar, it might need to be a pretty neat and accurate route. You also may or may not need a route for the circuitry. With the different models and brands, its not a given that you'll have to do this work, but its something to bear in mind.

I think an Ibanez Jem owner who posts here did a webpage with pictures of his sustainer installation.

Speaking of Jems and Sustainers, I noticed Ikebe sells Jems with the sustainers preinstalled.

I'd love to check one out.

Looks like fun I must say. I've got an ebow and the sounds you get out of it are completely different (plus it's a completely different style of playing). How much are those sustainer things?

They do one with the sustainer installed and also the buzz feiten system - they call this the perfect mod or something.

I missed a mint one of these on ishi for 120,000 Yen. I think Ikebe charges close on 300,000 with all those mods.
