Just wondering if any of you PC Legends could help me with my computer problems.
Its a Gateway, heres what happens.

I turn it on, Black screen comes up with windows starting written at the bottom, seems to be loading up.

White screen appears with Windows 2000 Professional. Starting Up appaears and blue bars go up at the bottom of the screen.

Goes to a blue screen for a second and then makes a clicky noise before repeating the whole process again(ie it restarts itself at the blue screen)

Don't suppose anybody has any ideas whats going on. I'm guessing the main problem is the PC is a heap of junk but sure I'll throw it out there anyway. Cheers

It could be a few things man. Can you boot to Windows safe mode would be question one. Following from that it sounds like your CMOS or BIOS may be corrupted. But frequently a nice format and re-install may work well. But then the problem could also be hardware related, perhaps the heat synch is not cooling the CPU sufficiently, but I would doubt that, since it seems to be doing the exact same thing all the time. I would say a software problem requiring a boot disc or a trip to windows safe mode or a re-install.

Tried Windows Safe Mode alright but it does the same thing. Opened it up earlier and couldn't see anything obvious. Lost me start up disks so reinstalling may prove tricky. Ah its probably time to consign the heap of junk to the skip. Thanks for your suggestions Dr.

Nah man that shud be fine if all u want is a broadband connection. I really wouldnt chuck it out cos I think it may well be just a software problem. U could pick up a windows 2000 disc from the manufacturers or even from one of your mates, everyone I know seems to have one for some reason....
Having said that, yeah, it could definitely be hardware problem too... but from your symptoms I doubt it. I reckon a few frustrating hours with a windows disc should have it up n running.
No harm to dust the inside of the box as its probably mouldy at this stage.

Clicky noise doesn't sound so good, the hard drive could be on its way out. If you can grab a Win2k disc then go ahead and reinstall as mentioned otherwise take out the hard drive, pop it into another computer as the slave drive to get any data you may want off it.
