    Hey all,

I bought a pair of earphones for €300 on ebay just before xmas.

The seller is in the states and has 99.7% feedback. They seem to be a store and have done several thousand transactions on ebay.

The earphones were shipped on December 17th.

I still haven't received them. I've tried e-mailing the seller several times looking for a tracking number but they won't respond to my e-mails.

Should I be getting worried or is it just slow in coming because of the couriers xmas backlog??

uhm well it is slow i got stuff shipped from the us on the 27th and got here on the 3rd
i presume that due to the cost of ur item the customs might be holding it and preparing their letter..

if the user is still registered and good feedbacks keep comin in i would exclude the scam hypothesis

Also depends on what type of shipping they chose to use in sending the items to you, generally US sellers ship using Airmail but I bought an item off a seller recently albeit much cheaper than yours, they paid $1.50 to send it to Ireland...which took 4 1/2 weeks...but yes I would be worried if I were you, customs may indeed have it...but if they don't?

ye thats a good point too majiktripp
how much did the shipping cost?

it is unlikely tough that someone shipped a 300 euro worth item without at least registering it

What method of shipment was used? See if the seller provided a tracking number.

All depends on who it is shipped with. I've had An Post take over a 6 weeks to get a Dublin to Galway delivery done, I've had a package take 3 weeks to come from Europe to here (left said Country same day, arrived here the day after as I found out after they started to trace it for me), next package sent on 28th of December arrived on 2nd of January.

If you use the like of DHL etc. you should have arrival in two weeks at most, usually 5 but they usually have a tracking number as well.

Here's some of the e-mail I got from them.

Your item has been packed on Wed, Dec 13, 2006 and will be shipped out the
same or next business day (we do not ship on Saturdays, Sundays, Public and
Bank Holidays). The Delivery Standard within United States is 4 BUSINESS
DAYS. Delivery Standard to EUROPE, Canada, Australia is 7 BUSINESS DAYS.
It might take as few as 4 Business days or may take up to 14 Business Days
for you to receive the item, however depending on where you live it might
    take the extra time).

Shipping to Italy, Spain, Portugal and Belgium usually takes 5-20 business
    days to receive the item.

They said that they will put the value of the earphones as $20 so that it won't be caught in customs.

They are getting hundreds of possitive feedback everyday but they won't respond to me at all so I might just try to get their telephone number and try for a tracking number!!

I've found that busy sellers often don't reply yo mails. Enter his username here and see what the negative feedback is like. If people are saying things like seller doesn't respond then you'll know you're probably not going to get anywhere. If it takes much longer than another week open a paypal dispute and get them to refund you.

Sounds like they are using regular air mail, hence An Post and no tracking number. Head down to your local post office and ask them to check, you might be positively suprised.

And with "Shipping to Italy, Spain, Portugal and Belgium usually takes 5-20 business days to receive the item." you could probably lump Ireland with that.
20 business days from December 18th is the 17th Jan.

I have moved here from the UK about 9 months ago, and the postal service is atrocious! I sent a cheque in sterling to the UK to pay a minor fine. I needed it to get there ASAP and paid €17 (about £11.00) for what they call courier post. But as I had left the UK I had to send it to the head office of the courts which was a P.O. box. What the clerk at the post office didn't tell me was courier post could not be delievred to a P.O. box as there would be no-one to sign for it.

So after 2 days i emailed An Post to ask why had my letter not been delivered. They said the courier needs the address confirmed, this I did and they said they would get back to me. Still 4 days later no delivery as I had a track and trace reference I checked the website, nope still not there. So I emailed An Post again, they then told me courier post couldn't be delivered to a P.O. box and they would have the letter returned to me so I could re-send it.

So I had to let the courts know what was happening and they said send it to the local court for the town I last lived in in the UK. So I got another cheque which cost me more money and sent it recorded delivery. About 2 weeks went by and I got the original cheque back and a receipt that the fine had been paid. I sent in an claim to An Post but heard nothing.

So I went to the Ombudsman, they asked for all the emails I sent and what happened, then about 3 weeks ago, the Ombudsman said An Post are going to give me an Ex Gratia payment for the inconvience. I recieved €50 and an appology from An Post, who now are going to update the information in thier postage guidelines.

So it does pay to be a grumpy complainer! Another situation happened when I sold an item on eBay to a guy in Belgium, he paid me €240 for it and I duely sent it registered and insured. He emailed me about 3 weeks later saying he still hadn't got it and could I chase it up. This was in August, so I contacted An Post again and they said they needed the address and phone number for the guy so the courier company could contact him. So sent that, they called him and said they would deliver it the next day.

Then I heard nothing from the guy, last email was in September. But I contacted An Post and sent in a claim form. I chased it up about 3 weeks ago, and they said they would write to the guy in Belgium so he could confirm in writing he didn't get it. Still no email from him, and I must admit I didn't tell him as I was very busy with Xmas and doing Discos,

I eventually got a cheque for €150 last week as this was the most they could give me under the insurance. Still no contact from the guy, so he paid me €240, I got €150 and can't refund his paypal payment as it is over 60 days. But yes I know I should do it out of the €150 I got from An Post. But if He can't be bothered to contact me, why should I contact him? Maybe he has got it and is telling porkies? We don't even get any deliveries on a Saturday, and no mail is collected on a Sunday.

I just went through all their negative feedback and some people say that item took 20+ days to arrive so that's reassuring.

Some people also say that the item never arrived but they got refunded.

More people say that they never reply to e-mails.

Hope this works out ok in the end :(

If you're getting nowhere with it and getting worried then don't leave it any later than 60 days to start the dispute with paypal. After 60 days from the payment, paypal will do nothing to help you. eBay will also do nothing for you, at any time. 60 days from date of payment is probably the beginning of Feb so keep this in mind as January comes to an end if you have nothing and haven't heard from the seller.

DJ_Spider, had a similar story with An Post trying to get a refund on a DVD Writer that got damaged in the post. I had some fun trying to get €100 out of them, even had to send the broken writer and the packaging it had been posted in before they would refund me. After many calls and broken promises I finally got the insurance money. Took about 8 weeks in total from what I remember.

    Hey all,

I e-mailed the seller yesterday, telling him that I am left with no choice but to get Ebay and/or Paypal involved if I don't get a response within 24 hours.

He has now given me a full refund through Paypal, has apologised for the post delay and has asked me to pay him when I receive the item.

    ....Phew :)

    Hey all,

I just got the follwing e-mail from Ebay.
We are contacting you about the following item: SHURE E5C Sound Isolating Earphones Headphones NEW (#170060047619)

The seller, wind130 tells us you have mutually agreed not to complete the transaction (e.g. because you returned or are returning the item for a refund or because there was a misunderstanding) and has requested a credit for their eBay fees.

Please respond by Feb-01-2007 so eBay knows whether you have made this agreement.

Please note: Both you and the seller will still be able to leave feedback for each other regarding this transaction.

    Thank you,
    eBay

The only part that I'm confused about is the "credit for their eBay fees?" Does that mean I have to cough up because the item never arrived?

How much would the ebay fees be??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 208 ✭✭Absolut

No, you wont have to pay any money - this just means that ebay wont be charging him for the fees that he would have had to pay if the item was sold successfully.

Basically, if you accept he'll get his money back from ebay and ebay will have a record of the dispute being settled. You wont be out of pocket and neither will he. If you reject, he will still have to pay ebay for listing the auction, but again you wont be out of pocket, but he will.

If you're happy with how it's gone so far (and it sounds to me like you should be ok with it, since you got a refund), you should just accept and say that the dispute was resolved and the transaction is complete.

Also, I have dealt with this member before - I bought an itrip from him last August. After about 3 weeks I started e-mailing him saying that nothing had arrived, he responded pretty fast, said to leave it another week and to see what happened. I left it a week, e-mailed him again, he gave the same response. About a week later I e-mail him and he offered to refund my payment. Just as I was about to e-mail him to tell him to give me a refund, the item was delivered. Took nearly 6 weeks in total, so don't give up hope of receiving your item yet.
