We are going to New York in Feb, Valentines week, so I have 2 questions:

Can anyone recommend a good restaurant for valentines night - quiet and romantic?

Should i book broadway tickets before going or wait until I get there (not for valentines night)?

    thx

    Goslie

I would book broadway tickets online. To avoid disappointment.

    Thanks shapez

'21' looks good - pricey but so what, it is new york on valentines and she is worth it!! If the food is really good i may just go ahead and book it.

Dont really want Asian, would prefer french/ american/ seafood/ steak bistro type.

    Thx

Was over there in December and treated ourselves to a couple of nice restaurants. Nobu (downtown) was v nice but a bit noisy and likely to be difficult to get around Valentines ( you have to book exactly 1mth to the day before). Also went to Michaels (around 56th and 5th) - very nice but very expensive. It is a bit of a celeb haunt - Sarah Jessica Parker and hubby Matthew Broderick were there the night we were there.

There are a lot of decent restaurants there - I would recommend tripadvisor as a search - but book quickly!!

On New Year's Eve a gang of 10 of us dined in Viceroy Restaurant, downtown on 8th Ave at 18th St, right on the south east corner.
The food was fantastic - my swordfish was quite tender. My wife had tuna steak and it was nicely seared and the uncooked centre surprisingly warm. These main courses were around $25. I was happy to try Saporro beer on draught (remember the cool cans they (used to) sell the beer in here?)

It's only, after reading the yahoo.com item above, that I realised that it had a primarily gay clientele. Actually, the music playing probably reflected that, though I didn't think about it at the time. Anyone remember Boys Don't Cry "I Wanna Be A Cowboy"? I still have the 7" vinyl of that at home.
If I'm back in NY, I'll definitely schedule a visit for the memorable food.

For an authentic (and cheap) lunch, we came across a by-the-slice pizza place on Bleecker Street, a few blocks south of Washington Square Park. I don't remember the cross street, but there is a playground on the opposite corner (closed for refurb). If I remember correctly the place is called "Excellent Joes". It was really busy when we went in. In order to keep the line moving the staff will bark at you if you are slow. Just order a plain slice or two (and maybe the garlic balls) and keep moving. Pizza is fresh, hot and great.
I saw one guy complain that there was too much cheese on his slice. They looked at him as if he had two heads.

Went to am amazing Italian in new york called "Serafina-fabulous grill" at 29 east 61st, between park and madison avenue. went there for a family lunch, had amazing food, not too sure of how romantic it would be as we went in the day time, but a really charming place with amazing food, had real charachter to it.

A great place to try also is "Tea and Sympathy" in Greenwich village if you get a chance, it's a little traditional english tea shop, very cute for afternoon tea if you plan on exploring the village.

Before a show i'd recomment PD O'Hurleys (yes an irish bar) but boy is it filled with an odd odd mix!!!
Great food myself and my gf went twice( we were in NY on 2 occasions) fantastic food great banter with the locals and great servers.
And then you could walk to broadway and burn off some calories!!

    http://pdohurleys.com/

I will be making a stop there next time im in new york thats for sure.

For a great all you can eat breakfast try "mama sbarros" on times square... all you can eat crispy bacon!! helps with the hangovers!
