    What is your reasoning?

I always sit in the front...

Same here. That way you limit eye contact and chatter yet don't totally rule it out.

Always the front passenger seat if I'm alone. I like a nice chat if I'm sober enough to string a sentence together, plus I need legroom.

Rear seat, diagonally across from driver.

Funny one, I wanted to do a poll on this too as some taxi drivers in Dublin seem to think you are being arrogant or something if you sit in the back. The fact that it is fairly standard across Europe and a "must" in New York and London seems lost on them...
You've got more space, you're not in each other's faces and you can still have a chat if you want.

Honestly never really thought about it that much. I just grab the nearest door handle...providing it's not the driver's :)

    Front passenger seat.
Dont ever really think why really.

Front passenger seat...with eye on meter. :D

  • If alone, front passenger seat.
If in a full taxi, its always me in front seat again.

If not alone, and not full, then nobody sits in the front.

Next Survey should be most common questions to a taxi man ?

    Are you busy tonight?
What time did you start at??
What time will you knock off ??

I like your new stickers !!!!

Thats it beat - Lets hope its a short journey

    Front.

Easier to have a chat... easier to get the drivers attention when you get in, and I've found that if you have a chat and are friendly with the driver, a quid is knocked off or they round down the fare.

It is more natural to sit in the front seat of a car if there is only you and a driver, even if it is a taxi driver. In other countries of course a lot of taxi's front seats are inaccessible, so you have to sit in the back - and it is not just your typical London taxi cab type. Some drivers of even standard cars prefer you to be in the back. Out of habit, I remember trying to get into the front of a taxi in Glasgow, and the driver was a bit shocked. :)

Nearly always in the back. Unless the back is full I don't really feel comfortable sitting in the car of someone I don't know. Buggered if I know why though!

I had a conversation with a taxi driver about this
recently,he prefered people to sit in the front or anywhere
once it wasnt directly behind him,for saftey reasons. And he reckon's gays always sit in the back too,

Always in the back, diagonal to the driver in case I need to speak to him.
I feel uncomfortable in the front as a girl, it's a bit close and I think the driver deserves they're own space too.

Generally in the back left seat. I don't even consciously think about it really.

Front is a little too intimate for me.
Plus you don't want to be sitting on the poor bastards sandwiches.

Yes, the front could be dangerous... we've all seen those French fillums.

Me, I sit in the back, on the left.

Rear diagonally across from the driver. Front with the driver is a no-no over here for some reason.

    Rear passenger seat - left
have a thing about being on the left dont know why
never gone in the front no particular reason

A more interesting topic might be:

Taxi drivers: where do you prefer your passengers to sit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,458 ✭✭✭CathyMoran

Back right - I always let my husband know the number of the taxi when I am getting into the car and let him know when I expect to be out of the car and ring him when that happens. I had 3 very bad experiences with taxis, 2 when I was sitting in the front.

If the VERY front seat is free, I sit there, so I have a great view. Usually it isn't though, so instead I just shuffle right down to the back. Left or right doesn't matter to me, I just take whatever life throws at me.

I never sit next to anyone unless there's no other free seat. However, once I sit down, I try not to look unfriendly and I NEVER put my stuff next to me (thereby blocking the seat) unless the bus is half empty.

I always hope that a pretty girl will sit next to me but, invariably, it turns out to be a big lump of a fella. I guess the ladies are intimidated by my obscene good looks.

I ride shotgun with the driver. I think it's a bit sniffy sitting in the back, that's what I do with my chauffeur (I'm not checking the spelling).
