Is Vodafone POP3 access possible on non-Vodafone connection?

A friend of mine wants to access her Vodafone email address through a proper email client (Thunderbird).

Is this possible if you're not using Vodafone to access the internet ? I tried a few times and it kept on telling me that the username and/or password was invalid.

It sure is! I use it all the time.

You need to set the POP3 settings as follows.

    Incoming mail (POP3) to imap.vodafone.ie

    Outgoing mail (SMTP) to smtp.mysmart.ie

Account Name has to be your friends email address: XXXXXXX@vodafone.ie
Note: The account name must contain the @vodafone.ie part aswell

    :)

Do you want present some evidence to support that "argument"?

Thanks gadgetman; I tried that, and it kept saying that the username and/or password were invalid, even though the password works on the Vodafone website.....tried both phone no and username as the login, with and without the domain suffix....no go :(

    Liam,

The only other thing is that the "Account/User name" will be the same as the persons Vodafone email address & it is case sensetive, make sure you are typing it exactly as it was originally setup.

The fact that it is rejecting the user-name or password would suggest that it's something simple like "Case Sensitive" especially if you know that the password works on the Vodafone site.

All I can say is that I'm using it via POP3 for ages & it does work.

Good luck & let us know how you get on.
