    Harrah's Releases World Series of Poker Schedule
    Schedule Includes 13 "Championship" Events, Including Main Event

    It didn't seem like Harrah's could pack anymore tournaments in the month-and-a-half poker festival that is known as the WSOP, but it managed nine more events than last year, which shattered all attendance records and had people waiting in lines outside the Rio's Amazon room just to get a peek at the action. This year, 55 bracelets will be won and it would cost $214,500 to play in all the events, without any rebuys.

    The WSOP kicks off June 1, with a $5,000 mixed hold'em event, which features both limit and no-limit forms of the game. Also that day is the $500 casino employee's event that, in recent years, started the whole celebration.

    With such an ambitious schedule, almost all the days between June 1 and July 6, which is the first day of the main event, have more than one tournament scheduled. Most days, either a $1,000 or $1,500 event is scheduled. On average, most of the tournaments cost less than $2,500 and most of the events are multi-day affairs. There are 18 events that cost $1,500, seven at $1,000, eight for $2,000 and four at $2,500, and all of these go longer than a day.

    Harrah's says last year, more than 42,000 entrants from 56 countries played in the WSOP.

    Harrah's also brought back many of the mixed tournaments that players asked for last year, including the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E, event (one of three H.O.R.S.E events), a S.H.O.E event, and two mixed hold'em events.

    The main event starts July 6 with the first flight. The schedule lists the number of players at 3,000 per each starting day, but more players could possible play. There will be three days of starting groups, and then a day off (last year, there were four starting days).

    "Day 2" actually starts on fifth day of the main event, when the players play for six consecutive days. The day before the final table, which is scheduled to take place Monday, July 17, is another day off.

    Harrah's was able to cut down on the starting days because it will be able to run up to 300 tables at a time.

    The Gaming Life Expo is scheduled to take place July at the Rio July 5 to July 8. Last year, Harrah's says more than 100,000 people visited the expo.

    Check back to CardPlayer.com for the complete schedule later today.

    Harrah's is also spreading 13 "World Championship" events this year, including the main event. They are:

    * $5,000 mixed hold'em two day event, June 1
    * $5,000 seven card stud event three-day event, June 6
    * $5,000 pot limit hold'em three-day event, June 8
    * $1,000 no limit hold'em ladies three-day event, June 10
    * $5,000 limit hold'em three-day event, June 10
    * $3,000 seven card stud hi-low 8OB three-day event, June 14
    * $5,000 Heads up no limit hold'em three day event, June 19
    * $5,000 Omaha hi-low 8OB three-day event, June 21
    * $50,000 H.O.R.S.E five-day event, June 24
    * $1,000 Seniors no-limit hold'em three-day event, June 25
    * $10,000 pot limit Omaha two-day event, July 1
    * $5,000 no-limit 2-7 draw lowball with rebuys two-day event, July 4
    * $10,000 no-limit main event, July 6.

    I see they are obviously bracing themselves (may not be the correct term) for a smaller field for the main event with only 3 day 1's and 1 day 2. Presumably subject to change, but interesting nonetheless. Have Harrah's gone back on their 'no entries from online rooms' thing or is that still the same situation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭sikes

    they have to clear up the whole online qualifiers thing. not really sure whats going on. they are shooting themselves in the foot if thats their stance

    they have a capacity of 3000 a day. so they are squeezing more in each day. also there is a gap between day 1c and day2 to fit in day 1d depending on demand i guess.

    the wait begins for stars etc to start their sats.

    I have just read the full schedule and for all those who complained that it was just holdem dominated I think they will be pretty happy. You could probably play every day and not play a holdem event until the main event if you did well. I imagine Danny Negreanau will be pretty happy anyway.

    Some interesting looking tourneys there.

    Has anyone made plans for going over yet?
    I'm definitely looking at getting over there this year.

    Amn't I correct in saying that they were mostly 2 day or one day last year??

    They were all 3 days last year Lloyd, the dates of the main event this year are crap for me, I may have a battle getting the time off, half contemplating playing montecarlo instead.

    does anybody know what the story is with the mega satellites on the 2 days before the main event??

    did they get many people last year? are there a certain amount of tickets guarenteed? is the structure ok or is it a crapshoot???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

    There'll be loads of runners in the mega, cardshark won a ticket in it last year and KP did the year before so its easy money. They should be able to tell you more.

    The structures arent that bad tbh, in the 2k event you have 3 hours to double up before you need to start pushing and theres plenty of people looking to gamble early on so get a hand and you've a good chance of getting action.

    Ste mclean and I won tickets in one of the megas a few days before the main event, there were 42 tickets up for grabs, 3k starting stack and 45 minute clock and play was attrocious easy enough to get a ticket but it takes about 12 hours.

    If I go to montecarlo I may well sell some action as the hotel for the weekend apparently costs 2k lol.

    I won my ticket in the mega the night before. 1k in 500ish runners. Structure was decent enough as far as I remember. I certainly wasn't complaining afterwards!

    it would be very nice to get in for cheap the night before.
    if all else fails in my bid for a ticket till then i think ill go over anyway and give the mega sat a go.

    Has anyone found any cheap deals on flight for this?

    Eoin i'll take 2% if you're selling anyways.

    There is a good fare on Virgin atlantic (£450, ~ €675), but the downside is that you have to have a billing address in the UK to book the flight. Is there any way around this? I know a few from here went this route last year.

    I have made my mind up to go, have applied for the time off and all.

    I might not be able to afford to do much, but I should be there to do it. If anyone wants to put a tenner in a bin for me I'll likely look for it.
