Im most likely going to be putting this course down as NO.1 on my CAO.

Thing is the only science subject i do is phyics, no chemistry and bioligy.

I see there are chemistry and bioligy classes that i will have to do, will i be totally out of my depth? A friend of mine who does science in Maynooth told me that they start off from scratch and all you have to do is make sure you pay attention from the off. Im not sure if this applys in DCU for environmental science.

Will i be totally out of my depth in this course?

    Please reply asap!

It does apply. All first years in DCU doing science do basic chemistry physics and biology in the beginning. So you will be introduced to chemistry and biology.

I went to DCU only doing physics, it was tough in 1st year, not gonna lie, but if you put the work in it'll stand to you. If anything it'll help in later years because you'll have worked since 1st year, not like the people who come to dcu with physics, chemistry and biology so dont have to study that much.

ESH is a good course, if you like that sort of thing. Its probably one of the easier sciences (depending if you choose phys/chem or bio/health) but you'll find that out for yourself :)

I'm doing common entry, but i share all classes with ESH. I'd only done physics too, but you shouldn't be out of your depth at all, it's easy enough to catch up as long as you do the work. Plus everyone who didn't do physics is gonna find that really hard:D

Oh and some woman in HMV told me to do go into ESH next year so i'm sure it's a good course. She told me they're going to save the world.

I had to show her my student card to get a discount in case you thought she was a mind reader.....

Hey only saw this thread now, I'm one of the graduating class in ESH, the first to do it. The course has changed as ppl have come through.
Right now the focus is pretty evenly spread, you don't choose a specialism till final year now (as opposed to 3rd year). The biology shares some stuff with BT, however some of ESH did find it hard to keep up in final year whe tested next to BT students. The physics has been run as just ESH students which is great bacouse our year had a poor physics background, but we did well and they were some of the most enjoyable modules we had. The chemistry is siminalar to the biology situation, The health part is more kind of an after thought, they're pretty random modules and don't always fit in.

The fact is its an almost social science looking at the world, the hows and the why's. You can't kid yourself, coming out at the end I don't have anywhere near the chemistry level other chemistry degrees would have (i majored in chem) and the same goes for the rest.

Any more questions or if anyone wants help once they're in give me a pm
