Ok. So I've seen a lot of comments here about whether or not it is better to text or phone someone to ask them out. What do you think? I think texting is easier, but less personal.

Texting to ask someone out? I'd say no. Definitely phone. Might be more awkward, but texting's too impersonal I think.

Agreed with wolfy. Phone them, texting to ask someone out is taking the easy way out imo. I'm sure the other half will appreciate it also for you to call.

for a first date I'd text her, after that I'd phone

Has to be phone. Look at it from the recipient's perspective; surely you'll respect someone more if they call?

First date should be requested face to face if possible. Phone and texts come after that initial contact has been made. If you do want to ask someone out for a first time, then you should be doing it face to face.

had a guy then send me a text first asking what his chances of getting shot down in flames would be if he were to ask me out..called me as soon as i told him i at least wouldn't laugh. it was actually kinda sweet that he was so nervous about calling me...guess maybe it depends on the guy...

Assuming it is a first date, there may even be a possibility that numbers have not been exchanged. Unless getting it from a third party they would have had to face each other at some stage to exchange numbers, even if they had not made a date then. So perhaps that is a license to phone. Phone is still preferable to text though. Definitely more personal.

Calling would be preferable but I don't think it makes much difference tbh.

I don't think it matters - depends on the relationship you have. If ye text one another often then it's defo ok.

text or phone them and ask them to meet up with ya then ask them to their face..worked for me..:D

Face to face > Calling > Texting imo. Texting is too impersonal for asking someone out.

Phone, you can hear their reaction straight away and tell if they actually sound excited.

Face to face or bebo (when faced with a personal predicament, always go with the cheapest option)

Neither! Meet them face-to-face. Take off a glove and strike them in the face with it, then throw it on the ground. Oh, you said ask them out, not call them out?

General flirting and random chat either in person or text. But ask them out face to face. Then run if they say no.

You should only use text to break up :D:D

Well, it happened me last week.....

What are you 12 ?? Ask them out face to face , Phone if great distances are involved.

Or if thats to much for you get your mate to walk across the hall and do it for you ...

Oh or even better leave notes after class

Sad this question keeps being asked , your ultimate intention is to get close to this person why try and do it at great lengths.

If you cant face them at all send a card it shows some effort...and be humourous , it increases your chance of a yes and makes a no easier to bear.

call her - she'll appreciate the gesture...or she may even call you ;)

on that topic what are peoples thoughts on the girl texting first? a group of my friends were discussing this earlier.

say for example boy a meets girl b. they chat, dance, kiss have a great night. boy a asks girl b for her number before she leaves.

now if girl b does not hear from boy a - could she text him if she hasn't heard from him for a couple of days. she does not have his number directly but obtains it elsewhere?

Texting isn't an automatic 'no', I think. It has advantages:
-It doesn't put the other person in the spot.
-You can properly formulate your proposal.

These are modern times. Done properly, I think it's an acceptable way of asking someone out. Two points should be borne in mind:
-Don't use txt spk. It's irritating at the best of times.
-Follow up the text with a call (but only if she says 'yes', otherwise you're straying into harrassment territory).

    that makes sense
well i love my fiance to bits and dont intend ever ever breaking up

but for those who are in unpleasent situation
this looks like a word of wisdom :)

or may be send them "call me" which is free from o2 text message and then start the argument hahaha

friend of mine did this for break up

I sent a letter a couple of years ago to a girl I liked.

Both of us working at a summer camp in America. Guys on one side of the lake, girls on the other. Only get to meet properly on time off. We were flirting around a bit but time was a bit a pain.

Wrote a mini letter. Gave it to a friend of her's. It worked a treat. Notes flying back and forth for the next few days until we hooked up.

Only a summer fling, but fun while it lasted.

Go old school. Use a pen and paper.

well, texting has its advantages. would save you the quiver just incase she says NO!

If it's just for the sake of asking someone out then text them, that way they won't feel under the immediate pressure of a phone call, at the very least they'll have time to think up a watertight excuse allowing you to save face, you know, something believable like "I have to shave my cat", or maybe "Sorry, tuesday's no good for me, I'm melting all my crayons together"

If you're actually seriously interested in this person I'd ring them.

actually id ask em face to face if they wanted to meet up then give em my number and tell em to text me to arange the details. i pretty much text everyone i know as i dont like ringing people, prefering to talk to em in person. but there is a lovely intamacy you get with texting and you can get away with things you wouldnt in a conversation, not to mention pic and video messaging too can allow you to be creative. but id definetly ask em out in person, unless of course theyre on the other side of the city and youve been texting other stuff before hand too.

straight out of the blue just asking someone out on a date by text looks a bit sad.

sides, chicks dig confidence. the clit said so :D

    i feel sorry for teachers.
