    Hi folks,

We're hoping to book our honeymoon in August pretty soon, and we're looking at going to Asia, and hopefully take in 3 destinations for a bit of variety.

We would like a week to relax in a resort type place, then a week in a big city and hopefully a week in a less built up place. So, we're looking at Thailand or Bali for the 1st week, Singapore or Hong Kong for the city part and then Vietnam for the last.

Has anyone been to any of these places, or could you recommend somewhere similar? We don't really have a firm budget yet.

    thanks,

    Eoin

Great idea for a honeymoon, but maybe a week on one Asian city might be too long.

I've spent time in Bankok and Phuket, but wouldn't recommend either for your honeymoon although a couple of days in Bankok wouldn't be bad. It would also be a decent springboard for the rest of SE Asia.

Best of luck mate. When do I get my invite? :D

have been to bangkok and kuala lumpar and think they are only worth a night or two at best. re beach resorts have been phuket, koh samui and penang and koh samui was best of the three.

Thailand, Bali, Singapore and Hong Kong are all fantastic places.

If I were you I'd give Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos etc the elbow for a honeymoon (especially Vietnam, At least the people in Laos and Cambodia are friendly). Backpacking around half developed coutries may sound romantic but when you are bickering at each other after being ripped off by the natives and half eaten alive by mozzies with a dose of the squits the romance wears of sharpish.

ha ha - I can see where you're coming from, though we were looking at a Vietnam tour where you do travel around, but you're in a hotel each night so it's probably a bit less taxing.

Thailand is no longer too high up our list, due to the coup last September. According to the lonely planet site; "There is also the continuing threat of terrorist attacks in some tourist areas."

Hong Kong is still looking like a good option, maybe not for a full week though...

@ Mike, it's in the post - you not get it yet???

I'm heading for Koh Samui and Koh Tao next month. Still probably safer than London.

Hong Kong is fab but say you wanted to see the following -

    Victoria Peak
    Star Ferry
Shopping In Kowloon (Nathan Road, Mongkok, Sham Shui Po etc).
    Stanley Market
    Night Markets

You're looking at 3 days max.

That's cool - we're totally flexible on the time in each place. Hong Kong is definitely looking like an option (though it will probably be seriously clammy in August!).

Could I ask you to have a look at this link:

Looks like it's a good mix of seeing the sights and travelling around etc, but still not roughing it too much?

The coup in Thailand has had no major impact on tourists according to friends who've been.

As for terrorist attacks, you're under as much of a threat in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Malaysia. Not to mention New York, London, Dublin, Paris, Madrid, Sydney...

No sign of the invite... I'll look again tonight :(

Looks like a nice trip. I spent a couple of weeks in Vietnam and could not wait to get out of the place. I found the people unbearable.
