Anyone know if I buy a nunchuk and a classic controller from Play-Asia, makred as compatible with Nintendo Wii Japan, will it work with my European Wii? i.e. are the peripherals / accesories region-locked?

Their component cables are back in stock, so I figured I might try and save on postage..

Do the nunchunk and classic controller work out much cheaper from them? I am looking for both.

About 20% cheaper than Argos (which seems to be the cheapest in Ireland) but then you have to add postage.. Boxed delivery for the cable, nunchuck and classic controller comes to 11.65, so a reasonable saving off of the Argos price if you are buying a few items.

Component Cable (3rd Party): 7.76 EUR (30 quid for genuine OEM in GAME)
Nunchuk: 19.93 EUR (25 in Argos)
Wii Remote: 38.74 EUR (50 in Game / 45 in Argos)
Wii Classic Controller: 19.33 EUR (25 in Argos)

Only thing about ordering with Play-asia is you might get cought with Import Tax of 21%. Well, unless you get them to mark the value of the package down...

can i ask what the deal is with the comonent cables?. ..... whats the difference between that and the one you get with the wii?

    thanks

The difference isn't huge.. The supplied cable is called a composite cable, with seperate left and right channel (red/white) audio and a potential resolution of 480i (640 x 480).

The component cable provides RGB (seperate outputs for Red, Green, Blue - so you must have these on your TV and your tv must support 480p), and outputs at up to 480p (720x480) and is called Enhanced Definition TV, so while far from HDTV quality, it should look a better on a High Definition TV.

I wouldn't have bothered if it cost 30 quid, but at a tenner delivered, I figure it's worth a shot..

If Play Aisa shipping is free, order them all as seperate orders.
Import Tax only applies if package is over $25 AFAIK

By the way - I just agot a Japanese Virtual Controller from eBay.

Will let you know how I get on with it this evening when I get home !

the import tax only applies if the value of the contents in the box is over 45euro. and if it is just place 2orders to make it under the 45value!

I's not free. It was 2.34 EUR for the component cable. Still good value at less than 10 quid delivered.

You can have a look for yourself here: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6162297/p-2.html
Just hold your mouse over the piccies to alternate between component and composite.

Hmmm... looking at those gamespot pics is interesting. I'm playing Zelda on a 21' SD CRT TV, using the composite cables through the scart adaptor, and it looks nowhere near as blurry as the pic they have for the component cable shots.

I don't think you can justifiably compare your output with the output of their screen-shots, as you don't know what they're using to capture the screens (which may be degrading the picture quality)..

The only fair comparison is between their composite and component shots (and to be honest, I''m not entirely sure which I think is better!)..

Here's some more comparisons, that show more vibrant colour using the component cable (however, the pictures were taken using a digital camera, so again, may not be reflective of reality)..

    Here.
