Well I'm thinking of buying a paintball package but I don't know what would be the best one for me with everything I need included just hoping someone here has bought before and knows where to go (website). I'm lookin at the 150-250 range of spending but the lower the better. Thanks

Heh, I was tempted to say that but held back. ;)

Whupass plays paintball doesn't he? There was another guy who did but he doesn't really post here anymore.

The forum seems to have been totally overtaken by airsoft.

Someone posted up a link to an Irish paintball forum somewhere. Just trying to remember what it was.

Which is such a huge benefit airsoft has over it that I'm amazed anyone would go to the trouble of trying to get one.

Each to their own i guess!

lol I don't know if their illegal maybe to buy in Ireland but a few of my friends have ordered them in from England and they arrived so...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

you can get alot of stuff into the country that may or may not be fully legal.....

No further comment on that note.

They ordered them from england without getting stopped? Odd. I was always sure you needed to have a license before you could import them.

Maybe they were just lucky getting them through. Maybe the Police are on there way to their house right now ;)

Well, just in case you didnt know. Paintball guns require a license. Airsoft guns do not. Paintball guns require expensive ammunition and co2 gas. Airsoft guns do not.

If you're not mad into the paintball scene and playing games all the time therefore need your own gun, you might wanna give airsoft a look :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 960 ✭✭✭Harekin

And Airsoft pwn's paintball. I can say that cos Iv played both.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 BlinkyJJJ

hhmmm I live in Galway nd there isn't to much of an airsoft scene, there was last year in school which was good craic but I think the airsoft is dying here, but I did just google airsoft nd did find a replica of the steyr which I'm already really used 2 with the RDF, lol thanks O1s1n now I'm just confustered at what to do lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 960 ✭✭✭Harekin

For a pretty small and unknown hobby in this country, this section of boards is pretty damn active...so yeah...6,666 before you know it.

How did that happen anyway? Ireland must really be full of..arms appreciators.

    Anyway back on topic
paintball. I see you are trying to be converted to airsoft. I am not going to say that 'paintball is the best thing ever, or you should forget that airsoft crap'. Instead, you should give both a try before you buy....but you can't try airsoft anywhere in ireland yet unless you fork out and buy a gun or know some one who has the toy. I haven't used or played a proper airsoft skirmish (has many people here on the site actually had a proper airsoft skirmish?) so i cant comment on it.

In a paintball package you will need the following:

    Paintball Marker (gun)
Hopper - The thing on the top of the marker to hold your paint
    Paintball Mask
Air Supply ( Liquid C02 Can or HPA - High Pressure Air)
    Paintballs
Other stuff - cleaning kit etc

A marker can cost you from anywhere from €100 -€2000. The differences being quality, rate of fire, accuracy, electronic or mechanical, reliability etc.
If you are just wanting to mess around with your mates or bring it to sites, the a mechanical semi-auto marker will do your job i.e. the VL Maxis is cheap and chearful. (BMFS or Irish Paintball Supply)

You need authorisation to hold a paintball marker, not a license because they do not have serial numbers. A good few of the guys on irish-paintball.net have gotten authorisation for their markers with relative ease, just takes a few weeks in some cases, depending on where you live. It toke me 1 week down here in the country.

The standard hopper holds 200 balls and gravity feeds the balls into the marker. €5 max for the plascic item. Electronic hoppers force feed paintballs into the marker for competition quality where you fire 20-25 paintballs a second.

The Mask is the most important item. The are avaible from €20 to €100. Differences include thermal lense ( does not fog up), single lenes, hard plastic or soft plastic (soft means paintballs wont break as easy), fan system (control fogging), comfort, general size of the mask and ease of cleaning etc.
A basic JT Mask starts off around 20 quid.

Air supply is next. You can go either two ways:
C02 - Canisters start about €30, can be filled in most paintball sites in ireland or fill your self, cheap to use, 600-800 shots per tank for a 20oz tank - cannot be used with some markers

HPA - high pressure air - tanks start at €80, up to 1300 shots per tank for 1.5l tank, lighter than co2 tanks, performs better, easier on the marker, standard for high end guns, expensive to start off, you need 300bar to fill it i.e. scuba tank, works on every marker

Paintballs - they come in boxes of 2000, €25 - €60 per box depending on quality and brand. Difference include consistency's in size (affect accuracy) and paintball shell (make sure it breaks on opponent). These are legal to buy as they are just balls filled with food colorings.

Other - basic stuff to clean your barrel if a paintball breaks in it, oil to lub your marker, anti-fog solution if you have a single lens mask. All the stuff can be got for €20ish

Thats the basic kit you will need. You will get a decent package for that price range that you mentioned. If you have any other questions, pm me here or on irish-paintball.net

And Airsoft pwn's paintball. I can say that cos Iv played both
agreed even though ive played more paintball then airsoft :o

Well Blinky their is a few of us trying to start up an airsoft scene here in Galway and it will get bigger and your more then welcome 2 join the fold.
Whats this about a former Galway Airsoft scene? can ya tell us more pm me if ya have 2?
lol but doesn't airsoft get taken by the wind way easier????
Airsoft guns are more accurate and have better range in most cases [stock form at least] because most paintball guns dont have backspin
Well if you are looking for a paintball "marker" lol i love calling them that  the tippy 98 or tippmann a5 are generaly accepted as the best choice for around that price. but you would want a better barrel for the tippmann 98 cos the stock barrel sucks [it is the only paintball gun ive used and its accuracy is horrendous but with a new barrel [J&j ceramix barrel ] or something like that it should be much better.

I pointed him toward airsoft as he wanted to import a marker and didn't realize it had to be authorized.

Which is kind of dodgy. He seemed to be pretty unaware of the details involved.
I think airsoft would probably be a better route for him in this case if he wished to own his own gun.

I've played airsoft but I haven't played paintball. I wouldn't mind giving it a go. However I'm pretty content playing the former. I like the whole collecting aspect that it involves as well as the actual playing.

Paintballs - they come in boxes of 2000, €25 - €60 per box depending on quality and brand.

Jesus man. Those paintballs are damned expensive. How do you afford that much per box when you can fire 20-25 a sec?!

bbs generally cost about €20-25 for about 6000 high grade .20g. When the weight goes up they get a little more expensive.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

    Agreed,

Ive played both and although i do like paintballs fast paced game at times, i much prefer the tactics and realism airsoft offers......................... ...................................................................and the grenades.

Well if you like something enough then you wont mind spending money on it. the 20-25 balls/s would only be for competition games(in the arena) using electro-phenumatic markers (markers cause they mark you with paint)

If you playing in the woods, then you are not just spraying and praying to hit somebody. You are in semi-auto, one shot one kill with my 20'' sniper barrel or the Apex ( backspin - for distance or turn it for curve shots or dive bombs)

BB guns souldnt even be compared to paintball markers as they are very different. Paintball Markers have around 15times more power than a bb gun on average.

    Oi vay.
You might want to let your friends know that they're now in possession of illegal firearms.
Best course of action would be to hand them over to their local gun dealer for temporary storage and then to go to the garda station to talk to their firearms officer about getting licences...

A.W.O.L is probally where you are going. If so, ask to use the speedball field and the hyperball field. That is the setting that the competition paintball is set in. They also have a woodsball area, but you can do that anywhere in the country. Tony is the owner up there. Tell him Richie sent ya ;)

I got hit in the chest with one in the doorway of the fort on sat, picked it up and threw it back at them.

You lit one and dropped it over the fence wall of the fort. Someone happened to be standing on the other side and it went down the back of his collar. He ran off screaming and shouting. There were many laughs.

    You dont remember that? :O

Paintball and Airsoft shouldn't really be compared full stop. They shouldn't really come into contact on each others threads. The equipment is different. The way of playing is different. Yet, to the onlooker, they're both just people running around a forest, with "guns", shooting at each other.

I'm not one of those "Paintball suxOr, Airsoft is teh 1337" (and I hope there are none on this forum ;))
But, if someone comes in here asking about buying a paintball gun, with very little knowledge of the sport, to the point of not knowing that the Gardaí have to be alerted they have one, I'm happy enough to inform them about Airsoft.

Oh, could you please not call them "bb guns"?. I'm not having a go or anything ;) Just, that, along with "pellet guns" really need to be stamped out of the forum. They're just no specific enough terms.
