    Going to Milan next March.
Looking for info from anyone who has been before.
1.) Can you recommend a decent hotel close to the city centre?
2.) How easy is Milan to get around? Is there a good public transport system?
3.) How expensive is Milan in relation to food and drink? How much is a pint/bottle of beer?
4.) Are there any sights or touristy things that you would recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

    I'll answer Q4, something I'd recommend: Don't bother.

As someone who was in 30 cities in 22 countries last year, I can say hand on heart that Milan was the worst of the lot. No wonder they have such good fashion - they have feck all else worth looking at. It's an awful kip. Reminded me of Cork, actually.

    Its 6 years since I was in Milan but here goes;

1.) Can you recommend a decent hotel close to the city centre?
2.) How easy is Milan to get around? Is there a good public transport system?
Very Easy. Underground is everywhere. There is also a bus route that circles the City all day that links the undergrounds
3.) How expensive is Milan in relation to food and drink? How much is a pint/bottle of beer?
Can't remember but food was cheaper than Ireland. What I liked was the 0.66L bottles of Heineken that you could buy in the restaurants, cheap also
4.) Are there any sights or touristy things that you would recommend?
    Duoma - Can't miss it
Try and get a ticket for La Scala in advance - famous opera
Do a day trip to Lake Como - lovely spot
Go to the San Siro if you get a chance and you like football
Good nightlife in Navigli (near the canals)

I have to agree. I know this is not exactly helpful:(

Milan is the business center of Italy. Nothing more than banks and shops there.

The Last Supper is there though. Not open on Sun and Mon iirc and don't forget that your shoulders (no sleeveless t's) and legs (no shorts) have to be covered, as with the majority of the major attractions in Italy.

Milan has a metro, easy enough to get around.

Food is cheap enough. Dont know about beer but wine is cheaper than here.

Thanks for the replies so far.
Im not too bothered if it isnt the best city, we are going over for a football match, I'm really just looking for a bit of background info on the place.

What way do the pubs work over there? Are there actual pub pubs (if you get what I mean!) or is it more cafe style bars?
I've heard a lot of places shut for a siesta (or whatever the Italian equivilant is) during the day? Is this true?
