I'm looking into buying one of these media hard drives from SVP.co.uk:

Ideally I wanted one that had USB OTG but I can't find any 3.5" enclousures that have it.

I was wondering, is there any sort of adapter that I could plug a USB memory key that would in turn fit into the card reader that would allow data to be read from the USB drive as if it was a card?

    Basically what I want is: Memory Key>"adapter thing">card reader>plays

Do you mean self powered over USB units ?

3.5" HD's are regular desktop units so it is unlikely they would have that feature only the 2.5" notebook HD's would be more suited towards that.

As for a USB card reader I don't quite follow you mean one of these.

Sandisk have a gadget that is a memory card and has a USB connector on it that folds out someway.

I can't find a link on the Sandisk website, but I am almost certain it is Sandisk.

Probably didn't explain myself too well.

It's something like this I want. Doubt it exists as there wouldn't be much call for it

doubt it exists either cos the physical size of most USB keys wouldn't fit in card slot. So adapter would be some clunky piece of equipment. That and the fact that you're probably the only person who wants to use a USB key on a card slot. :p

Found a link for that gadget here.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but it's a compromise.

Thanks for the replies. Not exactly what I want but might do. As irlrobins said I doubt it's a much sought after device.

Seems strange that I've seen 2.5" enclosures with USB OTG but the bigger 3.5" ones seem to lack the feature. You'd think with the extra physical space it'd be the other way around.

In today's world of computing it's almost a given that "if there's a need for it, it has probably already been invented"

This might point you towards finding a solution.

Is it something like this you are after?
