Got a Philips 42PF5521D recently cheaply. Away I toted it home, happy in the knowledge that it was HD ready, progressive scan, etc, etc. Except I can't find any indication in the manual or online how to activate progressive scan on it which, since it's not automatic, I'm finding fairly frustrating. Anyone any ideas on how to get the blighter to work?

A DVP3020 Philips DVD player - another cheap and cheerful purchase (€64 from Xtra). Seems like a decent enough player, does refuse to go preogressive on anything aside from component connection - since progressive is new to me I'm not sure if this is normal or not..

The screen displays it's image progressively automatically, it doesn't need to be "selected" - if it receives an interlaced signal, then it converts it and displays the image. If you want to send it a progressive scan image, then you need a dvd player capable of prog scan, and it will nedd to be connected using component video (the individual red green and blue sockets on the back of the dvd player and screen respectively). The reason people prefer to use prog scan for dvd is it saves a number of conversions of the video signal and the de-interlacer in the dvd player may be better quality than that in the screen.

Hrm - the output from the DVD player seems fine and the TV itself is recognising that it's a progressive scan signal (throws up a PSCAN! warning sign) but that seems the lot.
