Being thinking about doing an expedition of some sort lately and after seeing the borneo expedition of BBC last week i was intrigued by this place.

i was just wondering does anyone have any experience of the country?

Borneo isn't a country, it's a island that mostly belongs to Malaysia (two Malaysian states are on it, Sabah and Sarawak) and Indonesia. Brunei is also on the island. I've been to Malaysian Borneo and Brunei, but I didn't go trekking etc. so I can't help with that, sorry.

I've been to Malaysian Borneo in '04. As far as 'adventure' was concerned I went up Mount Kinabalu on a two day trekking trip up to 3000m. The trek was great even though I wouldn't define it as wild. I saw a couple of documentaries on Borneo (there's also a good book Fever Trees of Borneo by Mark Eveleigh) but as usual the 'wild' adventures aren't very accessible to independent travellers. On the west side of the island there are some world renown diving spots in the world.

The main cities of Borneo (Kuching, Kota Kinabalu) were more modern they were going to be. I was staying in 5 star hotels for ridiculous prices (around 20Euros) and never felt threatened in any way.

If you're interested in planning a trip or more info & pics, drop me a line and I'll try to help you out.
