The Holiday Inn in Place de Republique is ok.

Spent 4 nights last week in the Royal Magda Etoile hotel and recommend it. It's ranked 2 in Paris on Tripadvisor so it must be good! I would recommend earplugs though if you get a room at the back of the hotel and are a light sleeper as there was some sort of intermittent machinery noise throughout the night (not too loud). Price is good and staff friendly. It's just around the corner from the Arc de Triomphe, which is a little bit out from the centre but has very easy access to all public transport. There are also DOZENS of restaurants and bars in the area too so you'll be spoilt for choice!

How much € do you want to spend per night, per room. It'll give me a better idea as to what to suggest. If you give me the dates I could even look up to see if the good ones I usually suggest are free or not.

If you are looking for a 3 or 4 star in Paris (by Irish standard), then you probably need to go for a 4 or 5 star. Paris is a rip off and the standards of it's hotels are really low. We paid a lot of money for a "4 star" and it actually was like a 2 star at the most. So, be wary!

    Load of balls.

It's an International standard though of course it always possible to be unlucky when booking hotels.

Found the exact same in London actually, Ponster! Seriously! Unless I just have really bad luck. Although I did find that the hotels that I did stay in didn't have the AA rated sign outside the door saying the "official rating" so maybe that was the case. Either way, they were on the websites saying 4 star.

Just out of interest, I wouldn't mind knowing which hotels you stayed in.

There was a story recently in the news about the star system used by websites where it wasn't in any way 'wrong' for a site to give 4 stars to a hotel that the AA only gave 2.

Either way, I find that as you pay per room and not per person as I usually have to in Ireland, it works out cheaper but unless you pay a LOT of €€€ or know someone who suggests a hotel then it's the luck of the draw and unfortunatly, there are a lot of hotels over here that are just plain crap.
