Buying components in Ireland

I'm looking to build a gaming pc and I can't seem to find any retail or online store that carries performance memory like corsair and high end motherboards like evga 680i. Any links or store locations would be greatly appreciated.

    So far I've come across
    komplett.ie
    dabs.ie

    Any more out there?

Komplett is about the best you're gonna get in Ireland, check out overclockers.co.uk. They are british but deliver to ireland and have a good range.

Komplett.ie is probably the common one used by many boardsies and they have a forum for interaction with customers located under Biz->Consumer Interaction.

If you want top end hardware, and great prices, forget komplett.

    Use overlcockers.co.uk
    scan.co.uk
    And pixmania.co.uk

Much cheaper, And a much bigger range.

Ok here is the problem I have an international credit card because I'm not from Ireland, here for a vacation and none of these sites are accepting my card ¬!"£$%^&* Know any physical stores near the dublin area that might carry this stuff?

I'd try Peats, they're in the city centre... not especially cheap and they're out of stock half the time, but they carry some decent enough kit.
itdirect is another city centre shop for PC innards... haven't bought from them in years, so I can't comment really.
There's another one I can't think of that people recommended before, I think it's elara?
And if you're really disparate, there's Maplin... they've got a shop in the city center around the corner from Peats (Parnell St.) beside Smiths toystore... t'wouldn't be my first port of call (they do electronics mainly), but handy for picking up some bits and pieces.

Was in peats last week, i wouldn't waste my time :d. They had some decent peripherals but no "performance parts".
If you are going to be here a while you could send for a 3v card (prepay credit card) and pay with that. Other than that i dont see you building a decent pc from parts in dublin :S.

It shouldn't matter, you might have to bring in your passport or something when purchasing. I used my Bank of Ireland Mastercard in Germany and just had to show my passport. What kind of card is it?

I suppose you can try a pcworld ?

Not the best choice, but its all you have left really.

Pcworld use a system called transax. Which authorises your credit card there and then. No need for a pasport.

Its an option if you dont mind paying very high prices, not really sure what there stock is like, havent been for months/years.

Marx Computers may be worth a try also. They're in Dublin somewhere.

PC World don't carry high-end components... don't even bother.
Last time I was out there, the best gfx card they had was a 7600GT (or GS I forget)... they only seemed to have three motherboards from some manufacturer I'd never heard of.
They're not really geared towards high-end self builds, mostly low-mid range core hardware and a limited selection of components.

They've got a nice selection of peripherals and consumables though... and when they have special offers, you get some genuinely good prices.
Like a few months ago I was eyeing up a Creative X-FI they had on offer and decided against it because "meh, I'd get it cheaper on komplett"... but I later found it was actually slightly cheaper in PC World (even before you add on the 12euro shipping from komplett/an post).

Well how about you tell me what you'd like to see! Let me know, I'll get them in!

Mmm, looking at their website you see some core2duo's and an 8800GTX listed... not too shabby... but when you go in to the store - "it's just what you see in the glass cases", which often is just last-gen crap with a big price tag.

Pfff, how about some of the things that are listed on the bleedin site?!
I can't count how many times I've gone into peats looking for something they supposedly sell, only to find "oh we've run out of them".
I question whether these things are ordered into the shop in the first place, and the website is just a list of 'things we can order in for you'.
tbh if I wanted to wait days for something to be ordered in, I'd order it myself and save money.

Having said that, I miss being able to just drop into town to replace/return hardware... I had a gfx card delivered from komplett that arrived with a capacitor broken off... they were nice enough about issuing an RMA, but I can't be fúcked waiting two or three weeks without my only PCI-E card, so I'm still using it. (oddly it appears to work well enough without it)

Seconded, deal with Marx quite often and find their service excellent, prices are reasonable enough.
PC World have always been geared to sell schtuff to people with damn all computer knowledge, FACT!

In fairness I think we're generally pretty good in having what's on the website in stock in the shop. Generally speaking Parnell Street is where the components stock is kept, College Green, Blanch and Newbridge are just too small for even a general range of computer bits.

What have you been looking for recently that was on the website and not in stock in the shop?

Being serious here, why don't you at least try to help me help you. Instead of being smart about it (I really mean that in a nice way) why don't you try and help me correct the situation. We don't put ANYTHING on the website that we don't have in the shop or coming in the next week or two. If we were doing that we could list hundred's of items that we can access but don't stock.

Within the past few months, Arctic Silver and an AMD64 x2 4600 (and when that wasn't in stock I asked for a lower AMD64 which also wasn't in stock if I remember correctly).
There were more going further back in history, but I don't remember exactly what they were... things like RAM of a specific capacity... "oh you don't have the 512MB modules in stock? oh right I'll just have the 256's then".
This is all at Parnell Street by the way... and is, in my mind, has been a recurring theme over the years.

I have already submitted my suggested improvements to Peats via email (last October) on this very issue (with no response or acknowledgement from Peats).

I'm glad to see somebody's interested though... maybe there's hope after all.

Well the Arctic Silver - that's a fair call, that's my mistake. (100 pieces though in next week hopefully)
The 4600 was it AM2 or 939? We've always had AM2's but 939's have been very difficult to source.
Memory I can't understand as we generally speaking always have plenty of 512's and 1GB's especially on hand. Was it a particular brand or just any old stick you were after?

I can't speak about the email situation as I don't get to see those myself, but if you have a problem with something, feel free to let me know and I'll see what I can do for you.

To the OP: shop4memory.com is great for RAM - free delivery (post) and based in Ireland.

Tried College Green the week before Christmas for 5 PCI Wireless LAN cards. Only 1 in shop. Assistant got onto Parnell Street, but said they had none. Not after any particular type, just 5 generic of the same make.

Eventually got them from the components shop on Bachelors Walk.

Try as I might the managers from the smaller shops just aren't so computer orientated. They see themselves more as 'digital' branches stocking camera's, mp3 players and tv's etc. Not having a wireless pci card is just bad form alright especially when we had so many of the f*ckers!
