Sorry, I really didn't know where to post this.

I'm wondering what is the story with those late night programs for the deaf with a person signing in the bottom corner. I don't mean to sound insensitive but what's the point? I mean, wouldn't it be easier to just use subtitles?

tv channels show them because they have to. they are obliged to

even some of the music channels have it which imo is ridiculous

I know, the music ones are so stupid. But I still don't get why they don't just use subtitles instead.

I think the music ones are classic... They always have crazy looking people doing the sign language and they always bop away at the bottom of the screen and try and dance along when they quite clearly have no rhythm. It always cracks me up seeing some 50 year old middle aged woman bopping away to a 50 cent tune or whatever... I'm probably easily amused, I know!

I know, its absolutely hilarious *, late night rap/hip-hop channels on Digital always have some old woman or an old man. Hilarious sight to see them dancing along with 50cent while doing all these mad hand movements.

I don't really see the point, surely the deaf would find it easier to read the subtitles than interpret the sign language but maybe to the deaf sign language is more relaxing to read, I dunno.

That's like asking why programs like the Late Late have Pat Kenny on stage rather than keeping him behind the scenes and just listening to him via a speaker. FACT

That might be a real improvment.

Maybe when it has all gone digital it'll just be an option under the red button.
Its like when someone sets a glass on the coffee table between you and the telly....it just bugs me. I want to see the whole screen even if nothing is going on in the corner.
Then I guess a few of us put out is a lot less stress than being deaf and having to read all the time.
